Horrifying footage shows her entering the bathroom as soon as she wakes up and grabbing a can of red petrol hidden under the sink, before pouring the contents into her mouth.

It goes without saying that consuming gasoline can have dire consequences for your health.

In addition to causing nausea, vomiting and severe stomach pain if ingested, the toxic liquid can damage the digestive tract, as well as the heart and lungs.

It is advisable to seek medical advice immediately if you accidentally swallow gasoline.

Despite being aware of the risks and being struck by agonizing chest pains and dizziness, Shannon, of Welland, Ontario, appears unable to kick her deadly addiction.

“I know this isn’t safe, I know it’s going to kill me, and I still can’t stop.”

Shannon stated, “It has a sweet and sour flavor, like hot sauce.

“At first it tingles and then it burns the back of my throat.”

“I can’t go a day without it,” she said TLC.

“I’ll wake up, go to the bathroom and drink the gas. If I go out somewhere, I put it in a water bottle.”

Shannon even confessed that she got fuel on her hands when she filled up her car at the gas station and kept a glass on her nightstand at night.

At the time she appeared TLC, the 20-year-old said she had been in the grip of addiction for a year and drank up to 12 teaspoons of petrol a day.

That adds up to more than five gallons of the product in a year.

Shannon remembers loving the smell of gasoline when she was younger, crouching behind her mother’s car to breathe in the exhaust fumes.

This led her to try a sip of the stuff when she was feeling “upset and alone.”

It was unpleasant, burning his throat and causing “very severe pain”.

But the 20-year-old said she continued drinking petrol as a way of dealing with her depression.

TLC warned that gasoline contains up to 150 toxic chemicals refined from crude oil.

“Drinking gasoline can cause vomiting, damage to the nervous system and death,” he stressed.

SPIRAL ADDICTION

Shannon said her “favorite” way to drink the toxic liquid was straight from the can, although clips were also shown of her pouring gasoline into glasses.

“I take the lid off and breathe in the smoke coming out of the can,” she said.

Shannon’s addiction grew to the point where she looked for other ways to silence her gasoline cravings, dipping pieces of newspaper in gasoline before eating them.

She also began to suffer physical side effects from her addiction.

“I get very dizzy, I have very severe pain in my chest, I have pain in my stomach, in my intestines.”

The 20-year-old’s family begged her to find ways to overcome her deadly addiction, fearing it would soon kill her.

“My biggest fear is that she will die,” confessed Jacqueline, Shannon’s sister.

“I couldn’t imagine life without her.”

Her mother, Connie, told the program: “I’m at my wits end. I’ll do whatever she needs to do to stop drinking gas.”

Shannon’s story aired on TLC’s My strange addiction in 2012.

Since then, many have wondered if she survived her dangerous craving for gasoline.

A curious Reddit user posted on the platform to ask: “I’m wanting to see what happened to Shannon who appeared in TLCIt’s the third season of my strange addiction. She drank a lot of gas, is she still alive?”

People speculated in the comments, with one claiming that Shannon was from her hometown and still lived there.

The dangers of drinking gasoline

IT’S no surprise that drinking gasoline can seriously harm your health.

Drinking it neat can cause nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

In severe cases, it can cause damage to the digestive tract, as well as heart and lung problems.

It can also result in loss of muscle control and coma.

The UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) has warned that you should not make someone sick if you swallow petrol.

Instead, seek immediate medical help.

A serious form of lung injury called pneumonitis can also occur if liquid gasoline is inhaled directly into the lungs, for example when manually draining a tank.

Inhaling gasoline vapors – not vehicle exhaust gases – can cause dizziness, drowsiness and headaches.

Inhaling large amounts can result in coma and loss of muscle control, heart and lung problems, UKHSA added.

Gasoline can also irritate your skin if it comes into contact with it, leaving it dry and cracked.

You can develop eczema if your skin is frequently exposed to gasoline.

If the skin is exposed for a long time, burns may occur.

What to do if you come into contact with pure gasoline

First, remove yourself from the source of exposure.

If you have ingested pure gasoline, seek medical advice – do not get sick.

If you have inhaled pure gasoline, you should seek medical advice.

If you have pure gasoline on your skin, remove dirty clothing (not over your head), wash the affected area with warm soapy water for at least 10 to 15 minutes, and seek medical advice.

If you get pure gasoline in your eyes, remove your contact lenses, wash the affected eye with warm water for at least 10 to 15 minutes and seek medical advice.
