RUNNING can help men stay ready to play in the bedroom, scientists have revealed.

Getting 20 minutes of exercise every day can reduce your risk of suffering from a sagging will, experts have found.

Working out increases a man’s stamina, reducing stress and anxiety and preventing illnesses that can block blood flow to the baby.

Experts arrived at the findings by studying 2,509 American men with an average age of 43.

About half of people over 40 suffer from erectile dysfunction, a problem that increases with age.

They found that those who did 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week, which they said could include running, walking, cycling, dancing, tennis and gardening, were 22% less likely to suffer.

Active people who managed 300 minutes or more had a 39% lower risk.

Study author Ruihua An of Harbin Medical University in China said that being overweight, having high blood pressure or cholesterol, heart disease or diabetes are not impediments to benefiting from exercise in bed.

Smoking was the only risk factor for undoing the gains.

He said: “Doctors are always looking for safe methods to treat erectile dysfunction and regular physical activity is a low-cost option that can reduce the severity.

“Inflammation, chronic kidney disease and high blood pressure can damage the lining of blood vessels and are potential risk factors for erectile dysfunction.

“Additionally, physical activity can impact hormone levels like testosterone, which can strengthen blood vessel function and positive body image and decrease stress and anxiety.”

Half of men with erectile dysfunction could benefit from a wand that emits shock waves

The findings will come as a wake-up call to many Brits, as one in five people in their 40s and 50s do not exercise, rising to a third of those over 65.

NHS experts say everyone should dedicate at least 150 minutes a week – just under 22 minutes a day.
