Local media in China reported on July 14 that she died suddenly during a live broadcast.

She died last week from a suspected stomach rupture while devouring 10kg of food, which included chocolate, breaded chicken and seafood.

According to the post-mortem examination, his abdomen was visibly deformed and his stomach was full of undigested food.

This indicated that his stomach might have burst, causing stomach acid and food to leak into his abdomen, DailyMail.com reported.

Pan became famous in China for live-streaming her mukbangs, a viral Internet craze that sees people feast on large quantities of food on camera.

The trend originated in South Korea and mukbang comes from the Korean words for “eat” and “broadcast.”

But it has reached the UK and US, with YouTubers such as Nicholas Perry – known for his Nikocado Avocado – and Trisha Paytas creating their own mukbang content.

The craze has also appeared on TikTok, with users filming themselves gorging on decadent food.

Watching someone devour large amounts of food at once seems to hold a strange fascination – but experts have warned of the dangers of overeating, as well as those who observe it.

Dr Andrew Harris, senior lecturer in psychology at Nottingham Trent University in the UK, said DailyMail.com: “Mukbang videos revolve around consumption and indulgence, potentially reinforcing a cycle of overeating or unhealthy eating relationships.”

Bizarre medical case reports

Mukbang videos are banned in China, but content creators like Pan have gotten around this by live-streaming their binge sessions.

Pan broadcast her last 10-hour food marathon on July 14, during which she fainted.

Bystanders reportedly tried to provide help remotely but were unable to do much.

The streamer had already been hospitalized due to stomach bleeding.

When she died, most of the food she ate during the marathon challenge had not been digested and was still in her stomach.

Bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract can be a symptom of digestive disorders such as acid reflux, ulcers and even cancer, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Stomach ulcers can cause slow, prolonged bleeding, leading to anemia, or rapid, severe bleeding that can cause someone to vomit blood or poop black, says the NHS.

Pan first learned about mukbang from a friend, getting into the bizarre practice after seeing his friend make a lot of money from it.

Her portions got bigger and bigger as her online popularity grew and her viewers started showering her with gifts.

His parents were reportedly against his persecution because of the damage it was causing to his body.

Even her fans online have expressed concern over her ever-increasing portions.

But she continually ignored his concerns, as reported in Need to know.

She continued streaming mukbang even after eating too much, as it landed her in the hospital with gastrointestinal bleeding.

For your viewers Horrorshe started binge eating again just one day after being discharged.

It is unclear whether her death is under investigation.

DANGERS OF MUKBANG FOR VISITORS

Harris said: “While some studies suggest that watching mukbang videos can alleviate feelings of loneliness by providing a sense of social connection or companionship, others indicate that excessive consumption of these videos can exacerbate loneliness by replacing deeper, real-life social interactions with more superficial social interactions. virtual.”

Nutritionist Katie Lopez said: “Unfortunately, this is another example of the glorification of self-injurious behavior.

“More specifically, these people are at risk for stomach perforation, significant elevations in glucose and lipids, acid/base disorders, electrolyte changes, dehydration, and heart rate abnormalities.”

Katie suggested the content could be harmful to viewers.

Shelby Becker, nutritionist specializing in treating patients with eating disorderscounted Health that binge eating displayed in mukbang videos can normalize unhealthy eating patterns for people who already suffer from eating disorders.

“These videos encourage excessive consumption in an almost romanticized way, by not addressing possible consequences, such as stomach pain, nausea, increased emotional eating, etc.,” she explained.
