SHOPPERS at major US supermarkets have been warned to throw away certain fresh produce items in the event of a recall.

A previous warning about cucumbers sold at Walmart has been extended to include several retailers such as Aldi, Kroger and others.

This started with a big update on a certain brand of whole, bagged salad cucumbers.

Ohio-based Wiers Farm Inc. has voluntarily recalled these items at select stores in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.

The company expanded this recall to more bagged produce items.

This includes certain bagged peppers, green beans, pumpkin and jalapenos, according to the FDA.

Authorities feared that these cucumbers might be contaminated with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.

This germ can cause a serious infection known as listeriosis, which can be fatal in some cases, according to the CDC.

The FDA added that no illnesses or complaints have been reported yet.

Wiers Farm Inc. said it took this action “out of an abundance of caution,” according to the FDA website.
