Last week, doctors told Emma’s family that she was brain dead with little chance of recovery.

They prepared to turn off her life support on Monday and began planning her funeral.

But hours before her life support was turned off, Emma opened her eyes.

Emma is now able to communicate through head movements and small facial expressions.

She can also breathe without a ventilator for more than half an hour at a time.

His mother, Samantha Day, said My London: “I really can’t explain it, I’ve never cried so much in my life. We’re so happy that she’s awake.

“We were planning her funeral and getting ready to say goodbye to her on Monday.

“But then she opened her eyes and we all started crying again, but this time they were tears of joy.

“She has finally walked, what will be, a long road to recovery. It is nothing short of a miracle.”

Samantha, 56, said doctors are impressed with Emma’s progress as she has suffered significant brain damage.

She said the family knows they will never have the “old Emma” back – but are looking forward to welcoming the new Emma home.

The family raised more than £4,500 to fund the costs of Emma’s care.

Writing in a GoFundMe Pageher brother Thomas said: “My sister Emma Price was put into an induced coma.

“She is only 32 years old and has a loving family who want her to make a full recovery.

“She suffered a stroke and brain damage. She is also paralyzed on her right side.

“Emma is making an incredible recovery – but she still needs a lot of support from everyone.”
