Their ticket was just one number away from Friday’s drawing, so the player was lucky enough to win a $10,000 consolation prize.

The Mega Millions ticket was purchased at a Lucky Stop store in Columbia, South Carolina, according to The state.

The search for the winner is already underway.

The winning numbers in the Mega Millions draw were 6, 7, 24, 44 and 54 – the Mega Ball was 13.

According to lottery officials, the winning ticket matched four numbers from the white ball and the gold number from the Mega Ball.

The odds of getting it right are 1 in over 930,000.

While there is no immediate rush for the winner to claim their prize money, lottery officials reminded players to check their tickets.

Officials also shared a useful tip for players to keep in mind.

“Sign the back of your ticket and place it in a safe place until you are ready to come forward and claim your prize,” they said.

The individual has 180 days to claim their winnings.

When the winner comes forward, they will have the option to keep their identity hidden.

South Carolina is one of 11 states that allows lottery winners to remain anonymous.

Other states that allow this include Arizona, New Jersey, Ohio and Texas.

The Lucky Stop in Columbia will receive a commission from the sale of the winning ticket once the lucky person comes forward.

There was no grand prize winner last week, meaning the Mega Millions jackpot in last night’s drawing rose to $374 million.

HOW TO PLAY

To win the Mega Millions jackpot, players must match all five white balls and the gold Mega Ball.

Tickets cost R$2 and can be purchased until the day of the draw.

The odds of winning the Mega Million grand prize are 1 in over 300 million.

Lottery winnings: lump sum or annual fee?

Players who win big on lottery tickets typically have a choice to make: lump sum or annual fee?

Both payment methods can affect how much money you receive from your prize.

Annuities are paid slowly in increments, usually over 30 years.

Lump sums are paid all at once, but in smaller amounts since taxes are withheld all at once. This means 24% of your prize goes to Uncle Sam immediately. Many states also tax earnings.

Annuities can give winners time to establish the financial infrastructure necessary to receive a life-changing amount of money, but lump sums have the advantage of being taxed only once.

It’s also worth considering inflation when making a choice, as payments don’t adjust to the value of a dollar. This means you will likely receive less valuable money at the end of an annuity.

Each state and game pays prizes differently, so it’s best to check with your state’s lottery to confirm payment policies. A financial advisor can also help you weigh the pros and cons of each option.

Experts have differing opinions on the possibility of get the lump sum or take the annual fee.

The South Carolina winner is not the first person to miss such important victories by just one number.

Last week, a player in Washington state matched five winning numbers but not the Mega Ball.

They lost a whopping $358 million, but still managed to pocket $1 million.

A gambler in San Francisco came close to winning $154 million last month, but he also lost by just one number.

This lucky guy also won close to $1 million in the July 31st drawing.
