A shopper has criticized Lowes for allegedly forcing them to use self-checkout machines after failing to open meat and bone cases.

The angry customer criticized the home renovation in a scathing social media post.

“I just left @Lowes – they literally have ZERO options for human interaction at checkout,” said the customer he wrote in X.

“Except the poor soul who has to watch all the disgruntled shoppers being forced to go through the ATM lines.”

Several users were also quick to close the store.

“Tell them. If they stop checking they will open the lines again,” said one user boiled.

“Retail has become what the customer tolerates. Especially in @Lowes which has one of the saddest models in the country!”

“Kroger and Meijers got rid of their MEAT ISLANDS, now it’s all pre-packaged items and no one behind the counters there… MISSING,” a second person exploded.

A third user tried to clarify the situation.

“I ran a Lowe’s for years,” the person explained.

“Lowes no longer has employees who do assembly, facility maintenance or deliveries.”

The former employee claimed the store was “eliminating humans. Specifically the humans who are Lowe’s employees.”

‘They didn’t let me out,’ cries a Walmart shopper after forgetting her receipt – she was forced to wait in line

The post was a response to a previous tweet that proclaimed that “customer service is dead.”

“Customer service is dead in America,” the tweet said.

“They want to make sure you can’t talk to a real person, even at the retailers where you shopped.”

Loews is no stranger to criticism.

Latest self-checkout changes

Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed checkout times and reduce theft.

Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at several locations were made available only to Walmart+ members.

Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed at specific times and more cashiers were offered in its place.

While shoppers feared that shoplifting would fuel the updates, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.

One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would thwart fiercely contested receipt checks.

However, this test has been discontinued.

At Target, items are being limited in auto-checkout.

Last fall, the brand researched new express self-checkout lanes in 200 stores with 10 items or less for added convenience.

In March 2024, this policy was expanded to 2,000 stores in the US.

Shoppers also identified their local Walmart stores restricting customers to 15 items or less to use self-checkout machines.

A user recently complained that the new checkout system forced him to wait a “drastically” long time to use the self-checkout line.

“@Lowes your decision to do away with cashiers and use self-checkout is disastrous,” he he wrote.

“The waiting time to complete the purchase has increased drastically and now people with large loads (like wood) block the open kiosks, so you have to wait!”

“Taking my business to a family store,” he threatened.

A second user also expressed the sentiments.

“@Lowes I visited your E. Gilbert location,” a second person complained.

“I grabbed a bunch of tools and went to check out. There were only self-checkout machines open.”

“I asked an employee where I could pay without using self-checkout,” they continued.

“They told me that wasn’t possible. You just lost my business.”
