A MICHIGAN woman made the discovery of a lifetime after finding an old lottery ticket in her purse – worth $150,000.
Jennifer Horton Bought the Winning Powerball Lottery Ticket on a Marathon gas station in Mount Pleasant — located about 150 miles northwest of Detroit — in January.
And then she thought no more about it.
“I completely forgot about the ticket and found it in my bag about a month later,” she told Michigan lottery employees.
It was a shock to learn that the rediscovered ticket was a big winner.
“I scanned it at the store and received a message to visit the lottery house. When I realized it was a $150,000 winning ticket, I didn’t believe it at first,” she said.

“I thought there was no way I could spend $4 and make $150,000. It was a crazy feeling to have a ticket that was worth so much. money!” she added.
Not a regular player, Horton said she decided to buy the ticket and the extra power play by chance.
“I buy Powerball tickets every now and then,” she said.
“I don’t usually play Power Play, but when I was purchasing my ticket, the employee suggested adding it, so I did.”
She matched four of the five numbers along with the Powerball from the January 20th drawing.
Matching just four numbers normally earns winners $50,000, but matching the winner’s Power Play increased their prize to $150,000.
The big winner said she plans to use the money to pay bills and take her family on vacation.
Power Play lottery games can be purchased in most states for $2, with the option to add a Power Play to multiply winnings by $1.
Powerball drawings take place three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
2024 JACKPOT WINNERS
Horton isn’t the only lucky lottery player to surprise win hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars this year.
A woman in Maryland played the lottery without being sure how it worked – and walked away with a ticket worth $50,000.
“To be honest, I wasn’t sure how to play,” she said.
“I went to the vending machine and was a little confused.”
She forgot to check if she won until a week after the draw.
“I spilled some water in my bag and as I was cleaning it, I found the passage,” she said.
She was shocked to learn that she had achieved great success.
“I fell out of my chair at work,” she said.
