Although inflation has cooled significantly since its peak in 2022, prices continue to rise.

Now, some are throwing up their hands and looking for new places to shop.

Social media has become a hotbed for complaints about inflation in recent years.

VENTILATION

The Kroger buyer explained his experience with the X boycott.

“I simply stopped buying from stores and/or products that doubled the prices and at the same time made so much profit,” he said.

The company had an operating profit of more than US$ 1 billion last quarter.

“I had to cross some cravings off my list and go to Costco more,” he added.

“Damn bear [sic] boycott Kroger with their pricing in my area,” they said.

The user apparently meant to say that they almost boycotted Kroger.

Luckily for him, he found a new store – Costco.

The members-only wholesaler is popular because of its discounted prices.

User X’s rant was in response to a conservative activist’s complaint about his own purchases.

The right-wing influencer shared a photo of a pile of groceries, which they said cost $187.

“This is unbelievable!! How are families with children faring now?” they said.

Although they did not say which store they went to, the post received 22 thousand likes.

INFLATION NATION

Inflation remained stable, after having declined since the summer of 2022.

The most recent data from the federal government’s Consumer Price Index reveals some trends.

In the 12 months ending in June, the price of food at home increased by 1.1%.

Price increases were mainly driven by meat, fish and eggs, while the cost of dairy, fruit and vegetables decreased.

However, food prices outside the home increased much more sharply, by 4.1%.

This caused problems in the fast food and restaurant industry as Americans I stopped eating out.

Denny’s closed 57 stores last year, with more closures on the way. Company officials blamed inflation.

To try to straighten out the situation, the company announced the return of a value menu, seeking to fend off customers tired of inflation.

While it is increasingly difficult for restaurant owners to acquire materials to run their businesses, it is also becoming more difficult to pass these costs on to consumers.

An expert said inflation is not the only factor driving up fast food prices.

CPI and inflation explained

The Consumer Price Index is how the federal government measures inflation.

Every month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics shares its CPI numbers with breakdowns of which items have variable prices.

The CPI shows how much prices have risen or fallen over the previous 12 months.

The calculation process is complex, but it measures price changes for urban consumers, those who live or work in an American metropolitan area.

Although it does not cover everyone, it measures prices for around 90% of the population.
