THREE Powerball prizes are unclaimed in the same state and just weeks away from expiring.

Most lottery winners receive their prizes immediately after finding out they have hit the jackpot.

However, this is not always the case. Almost a year after the drawing, three people in Kansas have still not redeemed their money.

Two victories came from the Northeast regions of Kansas and the other came from the Mid-South.

Each prize was worth US$50,000.

The first Powerball win took place on October 7th, and the winner bought a ticket in the Northeast.

The winning numbers were 47, 54, 57, 60 and 65, and the Powerball was 19.

Another winner came from the same region a few days later, on October 11th.

A player from the Central-South also won that day, with winning numbers 22, 24, 40, 52 and 64, and a Powerball of 10.

Kansas Lottery players have one calendar year to claim their prizes. Anything left unclaimed after the deadline will be returned to the lottery prize fund.

MORE POWERBALL PRIZES

Lottery officials have asked players to check their tickets as another Powerball prize remains unclaimed.

The unknown winner won $1 million from the game.

They purchased the ticket at Fareway Meat and Grocery in Webster City, Iowa – about 70 miles north of Des Moines.

The winning numbers were 29, 42, 44, 51, 54 and a Powerball of 12. The deadline to claim the prize is February 3rd.

RETIREMENT FUND

A Powerball player in Kentucky took home $10 million thanks to the game’s “double play” feature.

The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, took advantage of the option, allowing players to participate in a second Powerball drawing.

Instead of a growing jackpot, the draw’s top prize is always $10 million.

Lottery winnings: lump sum or annual fee?

Players who win big on lottery tickets typically have a choice to make: lump sum or annual fee?

Both payment methods can affect how much money you receive from your prize.

Annuities are paid slowly in increments, usually over 30 years.

Lump sums are paid all at once, but in smaller amounts since taxes are withheld all at once. This means 24% of your prize goes to Uncle Sam immediately. Many states also tax earnings.

Annuities can give winners time to establish the financial infrastructure necessary to receive a life-changing amount of money, but lump sums have the advantage of being taxed only once.

It’s also worth considering inflation when making a choice, as payments don’t adjust to the value of a dollar. This means you will likely receive less valuable money at the end of an annuity.

Each state and game pays prizes differently, so it’s best to check with your state’s lottery to confirm payment policies. A financial advisor can also help you weigh the pros and cons of each option.

Experts have differing opinions on the possibility of take the fixed amount or take the annual fee.

The player decided to add the Double Play feature on a whim.

“It just popped up on the screen to add it and I thought, ‘I guess I’ll give it a try,’” they said Kentucky Lottery.

“I’m really glad I did it.”

They checked their numbers repeatedly to make sure they had actually won.

“I was thrilled and excited. Now I can retire,” they said.

Another lottery winner wasn’t so lucky after losing hundreds of thousands of prize money due to debt.

A sweet grandmother also shared her $4 million lottery win with her grandchildren.
