They were enraged by the lines that formed at checkout counters at stores in the Lakewood neighborhood of North Little Rock.

“The new Edwards Food Giant competition does not appear to have been accepted,” they posted on Xold Twitter.

The shopper shared a photo that showed two rows of closed self-service machines.

A Kroger representative said they were sorry to hear about the lines inside the store.

Dozens of Kroger shoppers shared their fury over the long lines inside the store.

Another buyer posted an image on X which showed lines that stretched to the back of the store.

Unhappy customers were seen standing with their carts in the dessert aisle.

“Next time I will go somewhere else,” they said.

Kroger shoppers seemed apoplectic because very few registers were open — even though there were plenty of customers waiting with carts and baskets.

Customers asked the grocer to open more boxes.

Target Introduces Self-Checkout Express Lanes for a Faster Shopping Experience

Kroger has apologized to customers numerous times after they documented their experiences at the store.

But it’s not the only retailer that has been criticized for self-checkouts.

Walmart and Target shoppers attacked the respective retailers.

Target has been ridiculed after bosses implemented a new policy that means 10 or fewer items can be scanned at self-checkout machines.

Latest self-checkout changes

Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed checkout times and reduce theft.

Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at several locations were made available only to Walmart+ members.

Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed at specific times and more cashiers were offered in its place.

While shoppers feared that shoplifting would fuel the upgrades, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.

One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would thwart fiercely contested receipt checks.

However, this test has been discontinued.

At Target, items are being limited in auto-checkout.

Last fall, the brand researched new express self-checkout lanes in 200 stores with 10 items or less for added convenience.

In March 2024, this policy was expanded to 2,000 stores in the US.

Chiefs tested the measure in a select number of stores before implementing the policy across the board.

A spokesperson for the chain told The US Sun that the policy aims to reduce wait times.

However, the measure was not well received by all buyers.

Some claimed they were denied a quick check-out because of the measure.

Others said Target dropped the ball and claimed the shopping experience was no longer enjoyable.

Walmart recently made headlines when it was reported that self-checkout stations were being removed from a store located in the suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri.

Bosses revealed it will take approximately two weeks for the renovation to be completed.
