A JACKPOT-winning lottery player pocketed millions of dollars and avoided the fate of the biggest US lottery winner of all time.

The lucky winner purchased 22 tickets at a convenience store in Indianapolis, Indiana.
She spent $44 on her bills at Lucky’s Mart, LLC at 5208 W. 10th St, according to Hoosier Lottery.
The last ticket she bought and filled out ended up being the life-changing ticket.
Its $44 million jackpot was the second-largest in state lottery history.
Despite his enormous success, the winner will not face the same fate as the biggest US lottery winner, Edwin Castro.
Castro from California won a $2 billion Powerball jackpot in 2022.
California lottery rules mean that lottery players cannot keep their identity private from the public.
Hoosier Lottery rules also require that the winner’s identity be public knowledge, but this winner used a loophole to avoid this.
She claimed her money, on Monday, April 29, as Lucky 22 Enterprises, LLC and not as an individual.
This meant that your LLC was shared with the public, but not your name or address.
The winner added that she was a longtime west Indianapolis resident and had been playing the lottery for three decades.

She visited Hoosier Lottery headquarters to claim her money, but a ruling meant more than half of her jackpot was immediately erased.
The winner chose the lump sum option rather than the annuity option.
She walked away with $21,195,213.55 after fees were removed.

When and why Castro was prosecuted
On November 7, 2022, Castro purchased a winning Powerball ticket at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena, California.
The grand prize was $2.04 billion at the time – the largest in US history.
On February 14, 2023, the California Lottery announced Castro’s win, and he took home a one-time payment of $997.6 million.
Castro’s identity was disclosed, but little information was known about the former mechanic.
In May 2023, Jose Rivera, a California gardener, filed a lawsuit claiming he was the rightful owner of the golden ticket.
Rivera claimed that its former owner Urachi F. Romero stole the ticket before it ended up in Castro’s hands.
Since filing the lawsuit, Rivera has been accused of filing a false police report and was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation by a judge.
However, Rivera pleaded not guilty to the charge, passed the evaluation and continues to defend his story.
They revealed they planned to use the life-changing amount of money to retire early and eventually start a business.
She added that she also wants to move away from home in the future but remain in the Indianapolis area to be close to friends and family.
“We love it when Hoosiers play our game and we love it when Hoosiers win,” said a state lottery official.
“It’s great to see Indiana’s favorite hometown jackpot game won in the same beloved city known for producing thrilling race victories over the past century.”
This Indiana resident wasn’t the only recent big lottery winner.
The identity of the $1.3 billion Powerball winner was revealed a few days ago, The US Sun reported.
