Eric Miller recently made a video on TikTok discussing the possibility of finding a valuable silver dollar and what to do when you get one.
Miller, who makes YouTube videos for @thecoinchanneltube and TikToks at @TheCoinChannel, is known for helping everyday people discover the value of their rare finds.
O video began with a narrator saying, “My friend found this old United States dollar coin” and asked if it was real and how it could be valued.
A photo of an 1800 American silver dollar with a bust and the word “Liberty” surrounded by stars was shown.
Miller then appeared on the video to say he knew exactly what the coin was.
“If it’s real, this 1,800 freedom dollar is worth a ton of money,” he said.
He then told viewers to watch closely as he searched, “tempu fake coin 1800.”
Replica coins appeared on the screen for just $9.48.
And they were marked as “almost sold out,” with 143 fake coins sold.
“Unfortunately, that’s exactly what it is,” Miller said, pointing to the original coin.
But when it comes to identifying a real one, the color should be a deeper bronze and look worn.
The stars also appear distinct on the coin, with subtle differences from its replicas.
The weight of the coin is also a factor, Miller said.
The real ones, amid a sea of fakes, sold for up to US$27,600.
