YOU may want to check your change as some coins can be worth thousands more.

However, this is not always the case.

Pennies, dimes, and nickels can be worth thousands depending on factors such as grade, mintage, or errors.

A Reddit user posted on the social media platform that a rather rare coin was found in a Coin Star machine.

The coin was a draped bust of an 1806 half-cent.

“My kids found a small 1806 half-cent stemless 6 on the coin star at the grocery store. We appreciate opinions on the note,” wrote the Reddit user.

While it’s difficult to rate it online, other Reddit users have shared their opinions.

Some people thought $600 was $1,000, while others thought it was $250.

One commented that they should not clean the coin, as it could decrease in value.

Others thought the Reddit user was lying when he replied “Just kidding, right? Seems kind of hard to believe.”

In 2005, a similar coin sold at auction for a record $7,763 due to its high grade of MS65.

The high price can also be attributed to the low mintage of just 356,000.

Other currency sold for $4,553.13 from Heritage Auctions due to its high quality.

If this coin gets a similar grade, it’s possible it could sell for something similar.

DRAPED BUST HALF CENT

The 1806 Half Cent is part of a Draped Bust series and was minted from 1800 to 1808.

VALUE CHECK

The most valuable coins typically have one or all of the following factors: low mintage, error, or high grade.

Grades are based on a scale and depend on impact, surface preservation, brightness, coloration and visual appeal.

Each is assigned a whole number between 1 and 70, with the highest number being perfect.

This specific variety is called Small 6, No Stems.

These were strikes in Philadelphia and designated as a business strike.

Each was made of copper and considered quite rare.

The obverse features Lady Liberty facing right, with staff and cap.

The word FREEDOM is at the top with the date at the bottom.

Meanwhile, the reverse has the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA surrounding the garland framing the words HALF CENT.

The garland is tied by a bow at the bottom with the denomination of 1/200.

A treasure of rare silver from the 12th century coins worth US$170,000 was discovered on a small island.

Furthermore, a drab-looking $1 silver dollar could be value $27,000 if you have a specific detail.
