Central Ohio-based Kroger’s sales event was designed to help seniors save money, according to a news release from Kroger, the local NBC affiliate reported. WCMH.

Eligible customers must be 55 years of age or over to benefit from the 5% discount available only on May 8th.

The price cut is available to shoppers in this demographic at all Ohio and Ohio Valley stores, WCMH reported.

Shoppers can access the discount using their driver’s license or similar document and must alert the cashier of their eligibility.

The Kroger store loyalty card is another form of identification that shoppers can use to get the discount.

“At Kroger, we are committed to providing fresh, affordable food for everyone,” Mark Bruce, corporate affairs manager for Kroger’s Columbus Division, told WCMH.

“We know customers are spending more and saving more every day with low prices, personalized digital coupons and weekly deals,” he said.

Eligible seniors should use the one-day deal on pantry staples, fresh produce, over-the-counter medications and household essentials, according to Kroger, per WCMH.

Kroger said exclusions include: alcohol, tobacco products, fuel, money orders, taxes, postage stamps, gift cards and certificates, lottery, promotional tickets, CRV, prescriptions and guest or customer fees/services.

The US Sun reached out to Kroger about the one-day sale.

CUTTING WITH KROGER

Bruce said the extra discount is just one of the ways Kroger is helping shoppers get more out of their grocery budgets.

The major retailer is offering customers who have opted for a Boost subscription access to Disney+ at no additional cost.

A Boost subscription, which gives customers the opportunity to opt into a subscription for $59 annually or $99 per year, was first offered in June 2022.

Free next-day grocery delivery comes with the cheapest subscription, while the most expensive option can get the groceries to you within two hours.

The deal follows a similar deal from Walmart, which offers Paramount+ as a member.

The two dupes include Soufflé Dream Moisturizing Cream and Super Glow Tanning Drops from MCoBeauty.
