Bosses say nothing will be withheld.

At Home officials announced that the Syracuse, NY, location of the store will close in early August, without providing further details.

The home decor store is currently located in the Destiny USA mall, occupying 88,000 square feet of the first floor.

At Home has been part of the American retail scene for over 40 years.

The chain’s first store opened in Dallas, Texas, in 1979, but hundreds were opened in the decades that followed.

In August 2023, the retail chain closed another location in Iowa, after closing several other locations the previous year in New York, California, Illinois and Texas.

The retailer also did not provide reasons for these closures.

At Home is just one of thousands of retail stores falling victim to the “retail apocalypse” happening across the country.

Similar retailers such as Macy’s and Walmart have announced the closure of hundreds of stores.

Macy’s announced earlier this year that it will close 150 “under-productive” stores by 2026.

Macy’s plans to close its flagship store in San Francisco’s Union Square.

Family Dollar, a retail store known for its discounted prices, will also close hundreds of stores across the country.

The retail chain, which was acquired by Dollar Tree in 2015, has already closed 34 locations in Ohio this April.

Dollar Tree CEO Rick Dreiling attributed the closures to harsh economic conditions in a press release.

In an earnings call, Dreiling reportedly described the economy as a “very challenging macro environment.”

In addition to closing stores, Dollar Tree will also increase some prices from $1.25 to $7.

The current cost of living crisis and inflation rates have not only hit large retail companies hard, but also small businesses.

Hiring plans among small businesses in the United States in March were the weakest since May 2020, Reuters reported.

Market Hall Foods, a specialty grocery store in Berkeley, California, recently announced it will close after 20 years in business.

The once-booming store cited financial difficulties and a shift in post-pandemic consumer behavior as the main reason for the closure.

The company did everything it could to stay afloat, but Sara Wilson, co-owner of the market, said it was ultimately not enough.

“Customers have become more cautious with their spending and are purchasing fewer items,” Wilson wrote in an Instagram post.
