Roper St. Francis Healthcare agreed to pay $1.5 million to resolve claims related to the breach.

The settlement benefits individuals who were notified of the breach at Roper St. Francis Healthcare in October 2020.

The Roper St. Francis system comprises four hospitals, six emergency rooms and 117 facilities in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina.

The plaintiffs allege that the nonprofit healthcare provider could have prevented the 2020 data breach by implementing reasonable cybersecurity measures.

However, Roper St. Francis did not admit any wrongdoing in agreeing to the $1.5 million settlement.

Class members can receive reimbursement of up to $325 for bank fees, credit charges and other costs related to the data breach, as well as compensation for up to four hours of lost time at a rate of $20 per hour.

Additionally, they may be eligible for up to $3,250 for extraordinary data breach losses, such as fraudulent charges and identity theft damages.

Additionally, all class members are entitled to one year of free credit monitoring services.

The deadline to delete or contest the agreement was April 30, 2024, with the final approval hearing scheduled for May 2, 2024.

To receive the money, students must present a valid document complaint form until May 30, 2024.
