REPORTS have been circulating about a supposed value offer coming to McDonald’s fans soon.

The fast food giant is said to be implementing the meal deal for customers following backlash over menu prices.

The selection would feature one of three entree options — McChicken, McDouble or four-piece McNuggets — along with fries and a drink for just $5, according to anonymous sources. CBS MoneyWatch.

They also told the outlet that the company was still negotiating the potential offer with franchisees across the country.

McDonald’s has yet to make any official announcement or confirmation regarding the alleged $5 package.

It is suspected the meal will be offered as part of a $5 platform the brand may launch to battle competitors like Wendy’s and its $5 Biggie Bag, QSR Magazine reported.

Chris Kempczinski, CEO of McDonald’s, noted that the brand was eyeing a “national value platform” during an earnings call earlier this year.

Executives likely felt pressure after several customers who named prices like $18 for a Big Mac combo and a McNugget deal over $25 went viral online.

Kempczinski told investors that McDonald’s would be “focused on accessibility” in a revamped business model that will extend through the rest of 2024.

He explained that the chain was seeing significantly fewer long-time loyal customers and those with specific incomes of around $40,000 over the years as prices increased.

What was once a quick, affordable chain meal was no longer an option for some Americans.

The CEO noted firm plans to bring those fans back, ideally with value platform offerings.

“What we don’t have at the moment in the US is a platform of national value”, highlighted Kempczinski in the conference call.

REPLACEMENT OFFER?

Just the announcement of the potential value offering boosted McDonald’s shares by about 2.7%, according to Bloomberg.

Some fans remain jaded despite the excitement, claiming the deal would effectively be a more expensive dollar menu.

The Dollar Menu was first introduced in 2002, but updated to a $1, $2, and $3 offering platform in 2018, for Business Insider.

“McDonald’s has a new inflation solution for you!! Turn the dollar menu into a $5 ‘meal deal’,” one fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter, with a palm emoji.

“It’s crazy,” commented another customer.

CALIFORNIA CONTROVERSY

Others claimed they wouldn’t even see prices completely drop in California due to recent wage increases.

The Golden State raised the minimum wage for fast food workers by 25% earlier this year, to $20 an hour.

“It will be $8 in CA due to the $20 salary,” someone wrote.
