A BELOVED cinema has announced its closure after almost two decades, giving several reasons for its closure.
The cinema staple posted the devastating news on Facebook on Tuesday.
Cinema 8 in Kearney, Nebraska — about two hours west of Lincoln — announced it is “closing its doors indefinitely” after its final showing on May 16, according to the post. Press release.
“This is an incredibly difficult decision,” said William Pollack, manager of Kearney Cinema LLC.
“The film industry has been severely affected by the pandemic, competition from streaming services, the writers’ and actors’ strike, the lack of blockbuster releases and rising costs,” he explained.
He thanked customers and employees saying the company is “exploring new opportunities for the building, particularly in the entertainment area.”
“We have been in discussions with potential investors interested in the property. We are optimistic that the location will soon again be known as the ‘ultimate drag experience’,” expressed the manager.
The popular 25,000-square-foot movie theater venue was built in 2007 and opened on Thanksgiving.
Until the chaos of the pandemic closed theaters, the local entertainment experience sold more than 250,000 tickets annually, according to the press release.
Before the press release, the cinema posted a short announcement on Facebook.
“It’s a sad day for us to have to make this announcement,” he began.
“Thank you to all of our customers who have supported us over the years and thank you to all past and current employees for their loyalty and dedication. We will forever cherish all the fun times and great memories,” he continued.
The theater was an affordable option for locals, with $7.56 matinee tickets for children and seniors and $9.72 adult tickets for evening performances.
‘ATTENTION’
At Cinema 8 websiteposted a warning to customers with gift cards.
“Please note: If you have gift cards, certificates or VIPS, please use them on Thursday, May 16th at closing,” the statement read.

On Thursday, viewers will be able to take advantage of their offers to watch movies from Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, The Fall Guy, Kung Fu Panda 4 and more.
ANOTHER CLOSURE
The Nebraska theater wasn’t the only one to close its doors.
In March, an AMC Theater location announced its closure in Dover, Delaware.
The venue, which opened in 2017, did not explain why it was closing, but viewers were upset by the news.
They will now have to drive to neighboring towns to attend a screening.
