A lawsuit alleged that insurer GEICO failed to pay Title Ad Valorem tax in full when settling claims filed by policyholders, for Superior class shares.

The fee tends to apply to most cars purchased after March 1, 2013, and replaced annual sales and motor vehicle taxes.

It is paid when ownership of a car changes or the vehicle is registered in Georgia for the first time, according to the state.

GEICO was accused of not calculating tax correctly when resolving policyholder claims.

The settlement affects drivers who received insurance payments between April 29, 2014 and December 31, 2019.

GEICO bosses did not admit any wrongdoing but agreed to resolve the complaints through the settlement.

A preliminary settlement was agreed at a court hearing in December and around 30,000 drivers could receive a payment, as reported by Insurance Diary.

The money drivers can receive depends, but they must list the accident identification number and the date they suffered the loss.

Claims must be submitted online by midnight EST.

It is too late to contest the agreement as the deadline was May 3rd.

A final approval hearing will take place on June 6.

Drivers who do not submit a claim form will not receive any payment.

And anyone who received some form of payment will receive a smaller check.

More than 28 million cars nationwide are insured by GEICO.

Meanwhile, drivers who purchased three different models of Acura cars will be able to receive a payment.

What is a class action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or “classes,” a way to come together in court.

These lawsuits are often filed by one or a few people who allege that a company or other entity has harmed a large group of people.

When a lawsuit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar claims to those who filed the lawsuit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue legal action by accepting money.

These payment agreements often include statements from the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination or false advertising are some examples of what can lead to a class action lawsuit at a company’s door.

Models include the 2004-2008 Acura TL, 2005-08 Acura MDX, and 2007-09 Acura RDX.

A lawsuit alleged that Acura failed to disclose defects related to its hands-free system.

Acura did not admit any wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement.

All claims must be submitted by the end of the month and the maximum payment is $500.

There are strict eligibility criteria, as Americans will only be eligible if the cars are purchased before they are 10 years old or if they have less than 190,000 miles on them.

Americans can request a payment in connection with a lawsuit filed by Federal Trade Commission officials.

Legal documents have been filed against the company First American Payment Systems.

The company has been accused of charging early termination fees to some companies.

More than 1,000 homeowners could be eligible for a payment.
