One of the main complaints that consumers across the country have shared is that there are not enough boxes for people to use.

This has resulted in long lines and wait times, frustrating many customers who only have a few items and forcing them to wait or call for self-checkout.

Target regular Cheyenne Walker recently complained on Facebook about the chain and its self-checkout stations, saying she was yelled at after bringing in too many items.

“I usually don’t let things like this bother me too much,” Walker said. publish to read.

“But the lady who works at Target scolded me for using self checkout because it’s ’10 years old and under’ and I had THIRTEEN items,” she continued.

“I didn’t have a big old cart, I had small items that took me two seconds to scan.”

Her post also included a screenshot of the 13 items she purchased, all small foods.

“These stores need to relax!” commented another user, Lauren Johnson.

“They can have more staff to scan for you if they want to complain about self-checkout.”

But as some large retailers are reducing self-checkout machines in some locations, citing an increase in crime and shoplifting since the pandemic, there doesn’t appear to be any increase in cashier hiring.

Some retailers, like Walmart, which have already begun turning off self-checkout in many states, have also seen retail layoffs increase 3,225% in 2023 — leaving many customers to bag their own purchases or be forced to wait in exorbitant lines. for long periods of time.

But even though big retailers blame this increase in theft for hurting their pocketbooks, they expect to lose a combined $132 billion in shoplifting losses this year, according to the to look for by Capital One, corporate profits reached record levels in the same period.

In fact, corporate profits now represent the highest percentage of national income in more than 10 years, according to the National Bureau of Economic Analysis.

But even though businesses are making more money than ever before, the vast majority of Americans are in worse financial shape now than they were before the pandemic, according to Yahoo! Finance.

Americans now often find themselves spending close to, if not more than double, what they used to pre-Covid on shopping alone, creating a sense of unease for customers about the treatment they have to endure while shopping at megastores.

“These companies, which are generating huge profits in recent years, need to stop being greedy and pay their workers a living wage,” Mary Jane Santos, a single mother, told the newspaper. Long Island Herald while shopping for her children.

“But then they will claim that if they do that, they will have to raise prices” – which, she pointed out, they are already doing anyway.

“The worst part is I’m paying all this money for less food in smaller packages,” she said.

“And then I have to account for everything myself, because these billion-dollar corporations don’t want to pay the tellers because it’s less profitable for them.”

“As if they didn’t have enough.”
