A FIRST Farmers bank customer has vented her frustrations online after encountering several problems with the network.
She was left confused after the bank issued her an overdraft notice on an account that had been closed for a year.
The First Farmers user turned to Facebook for an explanation of the warning.
“I really hate First Farmers Bank,” she began in a May 2 post. “I’ve had nothing but trouble with these people.”
She explained how she closed her account with them in June 2023, almost a year ago.
The customer questioned how a closed account without linked debit cards could be an overdraft.
“Like I literally closed the account? It shouldn’t exist,” wrote the confused user.
BANK HELP
Other Facebook users attempted to clarify the situation in the comments section.
A bank customer shared that he experienced the same problem years ago.
They realized that the overdraft notice occurred because the bank had not yet processed some checks at the time they closed the account.
In response, the original user clarified that all her bills were paid automatically and paid in advance to avoid such problems.
“Am I really confused? As if there could not have been any transactions on that account,” they said.
“I was under the impression that if an account was closed, transactions would simply not go through?”
The bank customer also noted that he did not issue a check.
A former First Farmers Bank employee also offered his two cents, noting that the bank should be able to provide the customer with a transaction history to show what the charges were for.
The former employee said overdrafts on closed accounts can occur if the invoice is paid, although this is unlikely to happen if the customer’s cards are closed.
“However, it is possible if an automatic payment linked to the account numbers is made. For example, car insurance or IRS payments,” they wrote.
In the comments section, the original user also shared that she accidentally deposited money into her closed account through Cash App and received a letter from First Farmers informing her that they deducted some of the money due for the overdraft.
“I was under the impression that these transactions simply would not go through if the account was closed,” she said.
Reasons Why a Credit Card Account Is Closed
According to Chase, there are several reasons why a customer’s bank account is closed without notice.
- Inactivity – if the account has not been used for a certain period
- Fraudulent activity – suspicious withdrawals or suspected theft
- Over-limit fees – if a customer makes a transaction greater than the amount available in their account
- Credit score – if a customer has had a significant drop in their credit score
- Delinquency – if payments have been consistently missed
Chase suggests calling the issuer to ask about reopening if an account is closed. The customer may be asked to provide information such as name, address and Social Security number.

After resolving the situation with the bank, the user shared the reason for the overdraft notice.
Turns out she had charges on her account that reopened it, causing the overdraft.
In the end, First Farmers Bank gave him his money back.
In related news, a 25-year-old Chase customer warned others to “beware” after their account was abruptly closed and they were informed via text message.
Another customer had his bank account closed abruptly – he was told to expect a check within 5 to 10 days, but was given no reason.
