A Social Security beneficiary was already facing an overpayment when the agency added another $2,000.

The frustrated user panicked when Social Security notified her that she owed more money.

Sharing her story on Facebook, Tiffany Lockwood Losco Gallant posted about her payment debacle.

Seeking advice, she began by explaining to users that she already owed a $1,000 overpayment to the Social Security Administration (SSA).

She claimed that SSA is now saying they overpaid her another $2,000.

“They’re saying I had self-employment of $380 in 2021. I didn’t have any self-employment unless they were talking about child support,” Losco Gallant said.

She then asked other users if this was what the SSA office was referring to.

“I am devastated,” she wrote, explaining that she can no longer continue receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

SSI is a monthly benefit program from the Social Security Administration that provides money to disabled American families or low-income seniors.

“I have to force myself to work and get off SSI,” she said in closing.

“It doesn’t help. It’s not my fault they pay me too much.”

“You have to declare all income, including child support,” commented one user.

“Just give back,” pleaded another.

“Where should I get the money to pay them?” Losco Gallant responded.

“I can barely afford to live.”

ADDITIONAL PAYMENTS EXPLAINED

Social Security overpayments may be due to an error by the recipient or the SSA.

If the SSA is responsible for the problem, it will alert the recipient, although some users say they have received checks without warning.

Submitting a Waiver to the SSA

Those who are unable to repay the overpayment amounts indicated by the SSA or who feel they should not be able to do so can fill out a specific form.

  • O form is identified as SSA-632 in the SSA website and can be completed and submitted at a local office.
  • “If you agree that you received an overpayment, but you feel that you should not have to return it because you did not cause the overpayment and you are unable to repay it, you should complete Form SSA-632,” notes the SSA on your website.
  • It also lists several refund options.
  • Recipients with additional questions should call 1-800-772-1213.

Refund processes can be adjusted to the recipient’s needs and carried out periodically through future checks in most cases.

Users confident that a Social Security error was not their fault, or those who simply cannot return their money can take action.

Known as form SSA-632, it can be accessed through the SSA website.

Meanwhile, a Social Security beneficiary filed an appeal with the administration because her benefits were reduced due to an undue payment.

The US Sun also published the story of a Social Security beneficiary who insists he had no idea about a $30,000 overpayment.

Additionally, a daughter was left paying her father’s Social Security debt after he passed away.
