WALMART customers are being turned away by the watchful eyes of self-checkout employees.

They say they are being met with accusatory tones and hovering when trying to register items on routine shopping trips.

It’s no secret that Walmart customers are often fed up with self-checkout.

From long lines to a lack of open lanes and complaints about specially reserved kiosks, shoppers haven’t taken kindly to the latest checkout changes.

And now customers say there’s another nuisance in the mix: Walmart workers.

Shoppers are venting their frustrations on social media about what they say are overly attentive ATM attendants.

“It’s been a minute since I’ve been to Walmart,” said one customer in one publish on X, the site formerly known as Twitter.

“They have an employee who had to look for me at self-checkout. What’s the point???” she blurted out.

“Dear Walmart”, started another user in a publish. “If you’re so worried about customers being ripped off at self-checkout, open more cash registers and call that shit yourself.”

They went on to describe the worker at the self-checkout as making him “very obvious,” “walking back and forth,” and “staying close [them] all the time.”

Meanwhile, another buyer wrote in a publish that they felt they were being observed in an “accusatory manner”.

They said the clerk acted like he was going to find a crazy item in his pockets, while “the red lights and calls for help from other customers” continued.

EMPLOYEES APPLY

Just as customers are frustrated with workers, employees are also frustrated with customers at large retailers.

After rumors surfaced that Walmart was charging for use of self-checkout, an employee decided to set the record straight.

“I don’t know why people keep posting fake things about Walmart,” said the worker and TikTok user @Sweets.Cream4. “That the lines are always closed and things like that.”

“They are false lies,” she said. “Here we are in customer service and it’s fake.”

One customer even claimed to have witnessed another customer attack a self-checkout employee.

“Do it better!” they pleaded in a Walmart post on April 5, after 8 of 20 self-checkout kiosks opened.

Employees at some Walmarts have alleged that customers are so frustrated with self-order kiosks that they throw items at employees.

This is especially true when unscanned items alert employees and cause them to check customers.
