A LUCKY lottery player got a huge shock when he thought he had won $4, but realized the real amount was much higher.

The winner from Kansas City, Missouri, won a Powerball prize earlier this year but was unable to verify the numbers.

Adrian, a regular lottery player, admitted that he was usually much more diligent with his tickets when speaking to KCTV about victory.

“That was about a week after the draw,” said the winner, recalling how long it took him to compare his ticket to the draw.

“I usually check all the numbers here at home, but this time all I checked was the Powerball.”

As a result of taking this shortcut, Adrian thought he had won $4.

He returned to the Casey store where he bought the tickets to claim his humble prize.

However, the store clerks were already waiting for him.

“It was interesting,” he told the media outlet.

“Casey’s employees said they had known for a few days that someone had won.

“When I handed over the ticket, the young woman whispered, ‘You won $50,000.'”

Instead of just matching the Powerball, Adrian matched four of the five numbers as well as the Powerball.

The incredible story of the luckiest lottery player

In the April 17th draw, the numbers were: 24, 29, 44, 47 and 54 with Powerball 2.

Adrian then had to go to the Powerball Lottery office in Kansas City to collect the huge prize.

He claimed victory on May 13 and promised to change his tactics for future games.

“I think I should start checking all the numbers,” he joked.

It turns out that Adrian was very lucky with his winning ticket.

Not fully checking all the numbers is a risky gamble, as he could have lost the $50,000 even if he later realized his mistake.

According to Powerball lottery rules, winners have 180 days to claim their prize before it expires.

In some states, this period is just 90 days.

Meanwhile, another Powerball player won $2 million but lost $480,000 after taking an eight-hour drive to collect his winnings.
