TINY house enthusiasts Kathlyn and Lincoln have taken a break from their tiny Los Angeles space after 10 years.
Soon, they missed the tiny space and sought to find a smaller home in Idaho that would meet their simple needs.

Kathlyn and Lincoln lived for ten years in a 400-square-foot, one-bedroom apartment in Los Angeles.
Pooling the money they saved, the couple built their 1,600-square-foot dream home.
Although the vintage bungalow in Boise, Idaho, was beautiful, it didn’t fit the couple like the small space they knew and loved.
Setting out in search of another delicate home of their dreams, they prepared to take action with the help of Home Made Nation, Tiny House Nation Program.
In a YouTube video from a season three episode, they attempted to reclaim their old lifestyle on a budget of $125,000.
Kathlyn and Lincoln visited three small homes in the Boise area before settling on a 200-square-foot space made entirely of hay bales.
CHARACTERISTICS AND MIXED FEELINGS
The rustic home is adorned with stained glass windows and paneled barn ceilings, complete with a secluded brick patio.
Although storage was sparse in the bedroom, with just a wardrobe and shelves on either side of the bed, the couple discovered a perfect kitchen hack.
What Kathlyn described as a “basically perfect” addition to the kitchen, the pot rack allows the couple to save a lot of space.
Pots and pans hang above the appliances on an oval metal and wire shelf, in a simplified way.
“I love the kitchen,” Kathlyn said. “For 200 square feet, that’s really big.”
But they weren’t exactly on board with the tiny house from the start.
“200 square feet is tiny,” Lincoln said. “It’s not just tiny… we’re on top of each other. For me, I don’t know if that’s going to work.
In addition to the size, the two were most shocked by the bathroom, which is separated from the bedroom by a single curtain and is just a few meters from the bed.
The small dining room ended up being a nuisance for both of them as well.
All about tiny houses
Tiny houses have skyrocketed in popularity, but there’s still a lot of confusion surrounding them.
Technically speaking, tiny homes are between 100 and 400 square feet, according to Realtor.
The legalities surrounding tiny homes vary by location.
It’s important to check local laws to ensure tiny homes are legal and built up to code.
A family of four was told they would have to leave their small home after four years after the city found them violating housing laws.
But they ultimately agreed to settle for the space, claiming it “had character” and that alternative solutions could be made, especially with regard to the small bathroom and bedrooms.
A 550-square-foot lawn gives the couple space to potentially plant a garden and entertain guests.
At the end of the episode, the two even planned to invite Lincoln’s mom over for Thanksgiving to cook at their little house.
Over time, Lincoln plans to upgrade the kitchen’s appliances and opt for a larger sink.
