The $3 Power Play ticket was purchased for December 6, 2023, by drawing at a merchant’s grocery store.

With the numbers on the ticket corresponding to four white balls and the red Powerball, the ticket owner could become thousands of times richer if he shows up in time.

The numbers drawn were 2-12-37-56-65 and Powerball 21.

Ticket winnings will expire on Tuesday, May 4, as Powerball winners in North Carolina have 180 days before the prize cannot be claimed.

“Research wherever you keep your tickets and double-check that you have the winning ticket,” said Mark Michalko, executive director of the North Carolina Education Lottery. FOX 8.

“We hope that whoever bought this ticket comes forward to claim their prize by Tuesday, so we can celebrate their big win with them.”

Of the $150,000, the state will impose a 4.75% tax, taking $7,125 from the pot.

Federally, 24% of earnings will be withheld, which equates to $36,000 in taxes.

In total, the winner will take home around $106,000 once they claim their prize.

If the ticket owner had matched an additional white ball number, he would have won the jackpot of $437,400,000.

The winning ticket, with the back signed, must be presented to the lottery agents.

The winner must come to lottery headquarters in Raleigh by 5pm on Tuesday to take home the prize.

NORTH CAROLINA WINNERS

North Carolina has had several high-profile winners in recent months.

Mark Douglas bought a $20 scratch-off ticket and ended up winning a $100,000 prize.

He purchased the Instant Millions ticket at a Quick Mart on West Main Street in Jamestown.

Despite the large sum of money, after taxes, Douglas will only take home $71,506.

Jack Romans Jr. bought a scratch-off ticket to celebrate his birthday and won a sum of $100,000.

With 8 total prizes in circulation, the odds of winning $100,000 are one in 767,778, compared to the grand prize odds of one in 1,535,557.

Money won from the North Carolina Lottery goes into the state’s education budget, according to the lottery’s website.

“When you play the lottery, you are not only getting a chance to win big, but you are also helping students and schools across the state,” he said. read.

“Money raised by the lottery supports educational programs in all 100 North Carolina counties. Although the money raised each year represents only a portion of the state’s overall education budget, it still makes a difference – see for yourself.”

The resources go to projects such as renovating schools, paying teachers and providing scholarships for pre-school and university students.
