Apple has agreed to a $35 million settlement to address allegations in a class action lawsuit regarding defective audio chips in its iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models, according to the settlement. website.

These chips reportedly caused audio malfunctions for users.

The deal applies to consumers who owned an Apple iPhone 7 or 7 Plus between September 16, 2016 and January 3, 2023.

Note that only those who have also experienced audio problems, whether or not they paid directly for repairs, will qualify.

The lawsuit alleges that Apple failed to disclose the presence of defective IC audio chips in its iPhone 7 and 7 Plus devices.

This led to several audio issues, including complete failure.

Launched in 2016, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus featured crucial audio features such as phone calls, video calls, and video playback.

Although Apple did not admit liability, it agreed to the $35 million settlement to resolve the lawsuit.

Under the terms of the settlement, eligible class members may receive compensation based on whether they paid for the repairs themselves or reported the problem without paying for the repairs.

Those who paid for repairs could receive between $50 and $349.

Meanwhile, those who reported the problem but didn’t pay for repairs could receive up to $125.

Claimants have the option of receiving their payments via digital checks, direct deposit, or physical checks.

While no evidence of repair is required to file a claim, Apple repair records will be used to verify claims.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is June 3, 2024, and the final approval hearing for the agreement is scheduled for July 18, 2024.

What is a class action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or “classes,” a way to come together in court.

These lawsuits are often filed by one or a few people who allege that a company or other entity has harmed a large group of people.

When a lawsuit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar claims to those who filed the lawsuit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue legal action by accepting money.

These payment agreements often include statements from the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination or false advertising are some examples of what can lead to a class action lawsuit at a company’s door.

To be entitled to benefits, class members must present a valid document complaint form until June 3, 2024.

MORE CLASS ACTION SUITS

Class action lawsuits provide a means for consumers to seek compensation following accusations of misconduct, often arising from incidents such as data breaches.

Another data breach settlement at Ethos Technologies is offering those eligible a payout of up to $5,200.

Executives at a life insurance company agreed to pay $1 million but did not agree to wrongdoing.

Meanwhile, following a significant data breach, Sovos Compliance committed to a payment of $3.53 million.

The software company is accused of negligence in preventing a data breach in its MOVEit Transfer app in 2023.
