The tech giant has agreed to settle claims made in a lawsuit with a $35 million payout, and you don’t need a receipt to get the money.

A collective action lawsuit filed against Apple alleged that there were material defects in the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus that the company “hid.”

In agreeing to the settlement, Apple did not admit any wrongdoing.

To receive some of the money, you must have owned an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus between September 16, 2016 and January 3, 2023.

Only those who have experienced audio issues and reported them to Apple or paid for repairs will be eligible.

The complaint alleges that the “failure of the audio integrated circuit” caused “the iPhone’s audio capabilities to become unresponsive and fail in their essential purpose as smartphones.”

He added that Apple did not offer a free fix for the flaw, leaving some users out of money, which goes against business practices.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members who paid for their own repairs could receive between $50 and $349 in compensation.

Meanwhile, those who simply reported audio issues but took no action could receive up to $125.

Payment can be received via digital or physical checks or direct deposit.

This decision can be made when filling out the complaint form.

June 3rd is the last day to claim, delete or dispute the agreement.

While receipts or proof of repair are not required, Apple will review your repair records to evaluate claims.

Complaints can be filed here.

However, those who wish to oppose the agreement or want to exclude themselves may do so on the settlement website.

Those who choose the latter option will be able to retain their legal right to sue Apple separately regarding the class action claims.

What is a class action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or “classes,” a way to come together in court.

These lawsuits are often filed by one or a few people who allege that a company or other entity has harmed a large group of people.

When a lawsuit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar claims to those who filed the lawsuit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue legal action by accepting money.

These payment agreements often include statements from the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination or false advertising are some examples of what can lead to a class action lawsuit at a company’s door.

However, those eligible who do not submit the form by today and opt out will lose their legal rights.

A final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for July 18 in California.

Meanwhile, drivers could get a one-off $200 million payout after a glitch left two models vulnerable to theft.

Some Hyundais and Kias are part of the deal, but you must have your vehicle stolen or broken into to be eligible.
