A WALMART buyer lamented his past decisions as a great opportunity for some customers to receive looms for up to $500.

This free money, for eligible people, was the result of a class action lawsuit against Walmart.

The lawsuit alleged that the retailer overcharged shoppers for certain products, according to the agreement website.

These items were “very heavy”, such as loose fruit, meat and seafood.

The suit alleged that buyers were allegedly charged more than the lowest price advertised in the store when they were asked to purchase these items.

Walmart denied any wrongdoing, but the retailer agreed to settle a $45 million payment fund for certain shoppers.

The payment amount can vary between $10 and $500 depending on the receipt and how many merchandise were purchased.

Verified Walmart shoppers with their receipts or proof of purchase would receive 2% of the amount spent on these groceries, capped at $500.

This prompted one customer (@Lyme_Pie_Slices) access X, formerly Twitter, to share a mistake they made.

“Walmart shoppers have days to claim $500 in overcharge settlement,” they wrote.

“I wish my receipts were organized.”

These Walmart regulars shouldn’t worry, as claims can still be made without proof of purchase, but the take-home amount would be drastically reduced.

Claimants who attest to having purchased 50 or fewer affected items can take home $10.

That amount would increase to $15 for shoppers who purchased between 51 and 75 products.

People could take home $20 if they could certify the purchase of between 76 and 100 affected items.

Customers who purchased 101 or more affected items will be eligible for $25.

What is a class action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or “classes,” a way to come together in court.

These lawsuits are often filed by one or a few people who allege that a company or other entity has harmed a large group of people.

When a lawsuit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar claims to those who filed the lawsuit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue legal action by accepting money.

These payment agreements often include statements from the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination or false advertising are some examples of what can lead to a class action lawsuit at a company’s door.

Claims made without receipts are made under penalty of perjury.

Qualified buyers should act quickly as the last day to submit a claim is June 5th.

This can be done by filling out a online form on the settlement website.

The deal applies to anyone who purchased these products between October 19, 2018 and January 19, 2024.

ONE APPLE A DAY

Walmart wasn’t the only household name to settle a major class action lawsuit.

Some Apple customers may be eligible for their share of a $35 million pot, The US Sun previously reported.

These customers must act quickly as the deadline for this agreement is today.
