This comes after CenterEdge reached a preliminary agreement to resolve claims made against the company in a class action lawsuit.

The company allegedly violated the state’s Biometric Information Privacy Act by failing to obtain consent before collecting fingerprints and other biometric information from its point-of-sale systems.

The company’s systems are used at major attractions, including water parks and amusement parks.

In agreeing to the $1.175 million settlement, CenterEdge did not admit any wrongdoing.

Eligible class members were divided into two groups.

Some won’t have to take any action, while others will only have a few weeks to file their complaint.

Under the terms of the agreement, the applicants will receive an equal share of the fund.

The value of each payment is estimated to be between $230 and $330.

Class members who are part of the first group will not need to submit a claim form as they have already been identified by their employers as having scanned their fingerprints into the systems.

These people will have received notice of the settlement and will receive a payment if they take no action.

Meanwhile, the second group of students must fill out a form if they wish to receive money.

These are “people who have scanned one or more fingers at once Sky Zone Trampoline Park located in Elmhurst, Aurora or Joliet, Illinois”, the settlement website States.

Group two includes people who worked in any of the Sky Trampoline park zone.

To file a claim, class members will need to assess whether, between April 29, 2014, and March 20, 2024, they scanned their fingerprints into the system at least once.

Complaint forms can be sent here.

Eligible Group Two members have until June 24 to complete the form.

What is a class action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or “classes,” a way to come together in court.

These lawsuits are often filed by one or a few people who allege that a company or other entity has harmed a large group of people.

When a lawsuit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar claims to those who filed the lawsuit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue legal action by accepting money.

These payment agreements often include statements from the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination or false advertising are some examples of what can lead to a class action lawsuit at a company’s door.

However, action must be taken by 10 June if applicants do not want their legal rights to be affected.

This is the deadline object to the agreement or opt out.

By opting out, eligible group members retain their rights to take legal action against the company for the same allegations in the future.

These people will not receive payment from the settlement.

However, those who are in Group Two and who fail canceling or filing a claim will forfeit your legal rights and will not receive payment.

A final approval hearing for the agreement is scheduled for August 21.
