JUUL users have complained about alleged verification issues that blocked checks from a recent settlement.

Several claimed to have received an email stating that their chosen payment method could not be authenticated.

“Did anyone receive an email from juul deal saying they were unable to verify their payment selection?” one complainant questioned in a Facebook post.

“Still won’t let me check my payment information,” echoed another.

Some said they were contacted by phone to resolve the issue.

Others claimed that the phone call did not work and that their money remained out of reach.

“It’s super frustrating and the worst setup ever,” wrote one angry complainant.

The electric cigarette company was ordered to pay $300 million to eligible Americans after a class action lawsuit was filed against it.

Plaintiffs in the case accused Juul Labs and Altria of false advertising and concealing safety concerns.

The companies allegedly neglected to include information in the marketing of Juul e-cigarettes that pointed out their addictive qualities and health risks.

The lawsuit also accused Juul Labs and Altria of targeting minors in their ads.

Both companies denied any wrongdoing in the case but agreed to make payments to resolve the claims.

Juul Labs paid $255 million and Altria $45 million, with one-time payments going to thousands of Americans.

CHECK, PLEASE

Qualified applicants would have purchased Juul products in-store or online before December 7, 2022.

No proof of purchase was required to file a claim, but payment amounts depended on several factors.

Those who were minors and made purchases would have their settlement distribution multiplied by four.

What is a class action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or “classes,” a way to come together in court.

These lawsuits are often filed by one or a few people who allege that a company or other entity has harmed a large group of people.

When a lawsuit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar claims to those who filed the lawsuit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue legal action by accepting money.

These payment agreements often include statements from the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination or false advertising are some examples of what can lead to a class action lawsuit at a company’s door.

Claimants aged 18 and over who purchased Juuls between 2015 and 2018 would have theirs multiplied by two.

Purchases between 2019 and 2022 would not be multiplied.

DEADLINE PAST

The deadline to register a complaint ended on February 5, 2024, with payments distributed this year.

Some frustrated complainants in the thread said friends got payouts of up to $60,000.

Those with payment verification issues will likely need to contact the settlement administrator to resolve them.

Americans should also be aware of at least two other significant settlements with claim deadlines that have not yet expired.

There are just hours left before Walmart customers will have no luck getting a potential $500 payout from a $45 million settlement.

Those looking to receive up to $1,200 from a $9.75 million home security system settlement must also act before June 7.
