A BELOVED cinema chain has announced it is abruptly closing six locations after filing for bankruptcy.
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema to close five theaters in the North Texas and one in Minnesotaleaving at least 600 workers unemployed.
The Austin-based movie theater company is known for its amenities like reclining seats, full restaurant-style menu, and cocktails.
“We are deeply saddened that we feel it necessary to take this step,” Alamo Drafthouse Cinema said in a statement.
“We are grateful to all of our employees who worked day in and day out to produce a special moviegoing experience and to our many loyal customers for whom it was a pleasure to provide such a special experience.”
The six movie theater locations abruptly ceased operations at 5 a.m. Thursday, according to a message of the franchise to employees who circulate social media.

The company, which is operated by Two is One, One is None, LLC, said it lost more than $1 million in 2023.
