Plaintiffs alleged that employees who received signing bonuses and/or signing bonuses the same week they worked overtime were underpaid.

The suit alleges that the normal rate of pay should have been calculated to include the bonuses.

The action covers employees who worked overtime between July 22, 2017 and November 7, 2023.

Amazon denied any wrongdoing but agreed to a $3.6 million settlement to resolve the lawsuit.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members may receive a cash payment based on the amount the company allegedly owes them.

Exact payments vary, but are expected to be around $565 on average.

No claim form is required to receive payment.

Another settlement offers payouts of up to $390 after a data breach.

Mercy Health, based in St. Louis, Missouri, agreed to pay $1.8 million to thousands of patients affected by the breach.

The 2020 security breach was allegedly perpetrated by a Mercy Health employee who improperly accessed patient information.

Some patients discovered that their children’s information had also been leaked.

The lawsuit alleges that the data breach could have been prevented if the company had “reasonable” cybersecurity access control measures.

Claimants can receive a lump sum payment of up to $90.

What is a class action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or “classes,” a way to come together in court.

These lawsuits are often filed by one or a few people who allege that a company or other entity has harmed a large group of people.

When a lawsuit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar claims to those who filed the lawsuit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue legal action by accepting money.

These payment agreements often include statements from the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination or false advertising are some examples of what can lead to a class action lawsuit at a company’s door.

However, those who faced data breach-related expenses, such as identity theft, may receive an additional $300.

These individuals must have receipts, invoices, account statements, or other documentation to claim the higher amount.

Anyone who received notification from Mercy Health in December 2020 about the breach can file a complaint.

Individuals must complete a claim form by June 10 to qualify for payment.

Claimants in a $300 million settlement involving Juul electric cigarettes are having trouble receiving their payments.

Another agreement regarding maturity dates is to offer payments from a pot of $1.25 million.
