Panera Bread has agreed to a $2 million settlement to resolve a class-action lawsuit alleging it misled consumers about fees and menu prices for delivery orders.

The deal benefits consumers who placed an order for delivery on the Panera app or website between October 1, 2020 and August 31, 2021.

Plaintiffs in three class action lawsuits alleged that Panera misrepresented costs associated with delivery fees and menu prices, causing consumers to pay more than they expected.

According to the plaintiffs, Panera’s representations about delivery fees and menu prices were misleading and, as a result, consumers incurred unexpected charges.

While not admitting any wrongdoing, Panera agreed to the settlement to resolve the claims and avoid further litigation.

Panera is a well-known sandwich, soup, and salad chain with multiple locations across the United States.

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE

Under the terms of the Panera Bread deal, class members can choose to receive vouchers or cash payment.

Students who opt for the vouchers will receive two vouchers for a free item from Panera’s “Soups & Mac” menu, with each voucher valued at $9.50, for a total of $19 in value.

For those who prefer cash, an electronic payment of up to $12 via PayPal, Venmo or another electronic payment platform is available.

However, actual payments may be reduced proportionately if the number of claims exceeds the net settlement fund.

The process for class members to receive settlement benefits involves several important deadlines and steps.

The deadline to opt out and object is March 11, 2024. Class members who wish to opt out of the settlement or object to its terms must do so by this date.

The final approval hearing for the Panera Bread class action settlement is scheduled for May 31, 2024.

During this hearing, the court will consider any objections and determine whether to grant final approval to the settlement.

To receive a settlement payment, class members must submit a valid claim form by June 10, 2024.

What is a class action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or “classes,” a way to come together in court.

These lawsuits are often filed by one or a few people who allege that a company or other entity has harmed a large group of people.

When a lawsuit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar claims to those who filed the lawsuit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue legal action by accepting money.

These payment agreements often include statements from the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination or false advertising are some examples of what can lead to a class action lawsuit at a company’s door.

The claim form must be completed accurately and submitted on time to be eligible for settlement benefits.

Students can choose between receiving vouchers or electronic payment when completing the request form.

Affected persons should also review the Notice for detailed instructions on how to submit a complaint and what information is needed.

Class members should take note of important dates and follow necessary steps to ensure they receive the benefits to which they are entitled.

For more information about the settlement and the claims process, class members can refer to the Official Notice provided by the settlement administrators.
