EVERYONE who plays the lottery dreams of winning big money, but a winner may never receive their winnings if they don’t act soon.

An unknown person in Pennsylvania is currently holding a winning lottery ticket worth $100,000.

Last year, the winning ticket was purchased at the Pilot Travel Center in West Hanover Township, but has since gone unclaimed and is set to expire soon.

Match four of the five white balls drawn, 2-24-34-53-58, and the red Powerball 13, to win $100,000.

The ticket would have been worth $50,000 if the player hadn’t included the power-play option.

But matching 13 on the red Powerball literally doubled the winnings.

But it could all be in vain if the winner doesn’t act soon and claim the prize money.

Winner must file a prize claim with the state lottery department by mail or at an area lottery office by Wednesday, July 10.

But this person is not alone in terms of potentially losing a huge amount of money.

In South Carolina, a $130,000 winning Palmetto Cash 5 lottery ticket was sold at a SuperMart in Timmonsville.

The ticket matched all five numbers drawn that weekend and is the sixth jackpot jackpot in South Carolina, according to lottery officials.

And the winner has yet to claim the prize.

The lucky winner still has 180 days from the start date of the draw to claim the prize, but time is running out.

Meanwhile, another person in Arizona won $50,000 and has yet to claim the prize.

State Lottery officials said the ticket was purchased at a Circle K convenience store in Springerville, about 200 miles east of Phoenix.

The winning digits were: 28-38-52-54-68 with a Powerball of 8.

But perhaps what would hurt most was an unclaimed Mega Millions ticket worth $2.9 million in California.

The ticket expired this weekend as no one claimed the prize in time.

The winning numbers were 8, 23, 44, 45 and 53, with only Mega Number 3 missing.

But not everything is bad.

Since the ticket was unclaimed, California will invest the nearly $3 million in proceeds in the state’s public schools.

Lottery winnings: lump sum or annual fee?

Players who win big on lottery tickets typically have a choice to make: lump sum or annual fee?

Both payment methods can affect how much money you receive from your prize.

Annuities are paid slowly in increments, usually over 30 years.

Lump sums are paid all at once, but in smaller amounts since taxes are withheld all at once. This means 24% of your prize goes to Uncle Sam immediately. Many states also tax earnings.

Annuities can give winners time to create the financial infrastructure needed to receive a life-changing amount of money, but lump sums have the advantage of being taxed only once.

It’s also worth considering inflation when making a choice, as payments don’t adjust to the value of a dollar. This means you will likely receive less valuable money at the end of an annuity.

Each state and game pays prizes differently, so it’s best to check with your state’s lottery to confirm payment policies. A financial advisor can also help you weigh the pros and cons of each option.

Experts have differing opinions on the possibility of take the fixed amount or take the annual fee.
