ONE of McDonald’s most beloved characters is being snubbed on his birthday this year.
In 2023, the restaurant chain went all out for Grimace’s birthday, on June 12th.
McDonald’s introduced the Grimace Birthday Meal, which included a choice of 10-piece Big Mac or Chicken McNuggets, with fries and a special Grimace Shake.
The limited-edition purple shake was “inspired by Grimace’s iconic color and sweetness.” McDonalds he said.
This year, however, Grimace’s birthday went largely unnoticed by U.S. restaurants.
McDonald’s Canada brought back the blueberry shake and American customers were disappointed.

“My daughter had the impression that the grimace was back. Not yet,” said one customer he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“Where is the agitated grimace”, another demanded.
“The Grimace shake TikTok trend was one of my favorite social media moments of all time. It’s a real crime that the shake hasn’t made a comeback this year,” a third tweeted.
LAST YEAR’S CELEBRATION
In addition to the special meal, an exclusive video game was launched on the day in collaboration with Krool Toys. Careta’s birthday in 2023.
Fans of the game are remembering last year’s release, with a writing on the X, “Happy Birthday, Grimace! Last year, for your birthday, the folks at Krool Toys created a game based on everyone’s favorite purple McDonald’s-related mascot!”
Another customer he responded“We played Grimace’s birthday through my Analogue Pocket for, well, Grimace’s birthday today!”
“Very surprised that McDonald’s didn’t bring the shake back this year… (in the US).”
McDonald’s also released merchandise in honor of the character, with items ranging from shirts to socks.
Lastly, the restaurant chain piloted a donation initiative where customers could share McDonald’s Instagram Story and each photo shared would donate $5 to Ronald McDonald House Charities.
“We’re excited to put a modern twist on these memories to continue to drive McDonald’s relevance for a new generation,” said Tariq Hassan, chief marketing and customer experience officer, in a press release at the time.
“Grimace is the perfect, lovable icon for McDonald’s to meet our fans at the intersection of nostalgia and culture.”
It turns out that Grimace wasn’t adorable enough to continue the celebration for a second year.

Grimace is from Grimace Island and his grandmother Winky, aunts Millie and Tillie and uncle O’Grmacey are also part of the McDonald’s universe.
The character was introduced to the franchise in 1971, turning 53 years old this year.
His initial name was “Evil Grimace” and he had four arms for stealing milkshakes.
Grimace made his first television appearance in the 1970s alongside the show’s star, Ronald McDonald.
Even though Americans weren’t able to get their hands on the limited-edition shake, many took to social media to wish the mystery monster a happy birthday.

Grimace even showed up to the New York Mets game on Wednesday night to throw away the first pitch.
