ALDI is under pressure after customers complained about the quality of its fruit and vegetables on social media.
Aldi customers posted photos of what they considered to be fresh produce when they bought groceries.
But after opening the packages and trying to eat their “fresh” foods, most of the fruits and vegetables they ended up buying were spoiled.
“I’m a professional chef and I really care a lot about where we shop for our home and no one comes close to Aldi in terms of quality at a low price,” said one customer on X, formerly Twitter.
But in this post someone asked the chef if he had ever seen a watermelon like the one he bought at Aldi.
Sharing one Photograph of fruitthe outside looked like a perfectly normal watermelon.
But the interior, as he said in his post, was “rotten to the core.”
“The deeper I went, the worse it seemed,” he added.
The fruit looked so bad that the chef humorously shared a gif of Homer Simpson disappearing into the bushes, almost as if he was rescinding his endorsement of Aldi’s fruit section.
The post was enough for the network to notice, responding and apologizing for the state of the fruit.
He was advised to bring the fruit back with a full refund and a free watermelon.
“We are very sorry to see this!”, the chain he said in a reply back.
“Please return it when it is convenient for you to do so and the store team will take care of you with a full refund AND replacement,” the post continued
“It’s our twice as good guarantee!”
But some time later, the man responded to Aldi and said his experience had gotten worse since the guarantee.
“It wasn’t twice and it wasn’t nice,” he replied.
“I didn’t expect hostility, my original purchase was two watermelons for $6.99,” he continued.
“My refund for both was $4.65.”
“I presented my receipt and she seemed angry about it,” he said.
“I’m intrigued by the reaction to this transaction.”
He compared her receipt to other prices from that day and claimed she overcharged her by more than 177% on one item.
“Googling supermarkets that are intimidation-free and honest in pricing,” his post concluded.
He’s not the only one who has had negative experiences with fruit and vegetables bought from Aldi.
“Last month, their bananas were terrible!”, wrote a customer on X.
“They also usually have a stiff rope running through them.”
Another user shared rotten strawberries, while another person shared rotten tomatoes.
“They are disgusting,” she said.
Aldi apologized again following these posts, asking the customer to message so they could work something out privately.
