A former Walmart employee highlighted the retailer’s new self-checkout system, signaling a faulty inventory issue.
Although he had the products on hand using Walmart’s Scan and Go, the items were listed as “out of stock.”
Former Walmart employee Larry Stewart took to Facebook to document his bad experience with Walmart’s local self-checkout.
“I’ve been hearing about Walmart’s terrible self-checkout experience,” Larry wrote in a June 17 statement. publish.
“I went to the register and saw it scan and go into all the self-checkout machines. So I scanned all my items. I went to scan the last item and it said the soda was out even though I was holding it in my hand.”
Speaking about the New Jersey Walmart, Larry continued: “The Flanders Walmart associate scanned the product at self-checkout and added it to my cart without the items I scanned on the phone.
“I went to add items on my phone to pay at self-checkout and the machine deleted the items I scanned on my phone.”
Larry went on to say that he had to scan all of his items again and then pay for the items.
However, the incident was the last straw, as the former employee expressed that he “never” wanted to use self-checkout again.
“Walmart’s inventory is never right and I will never use scanning again and again. I would like the cashier to scan and bag my items.
“After all, we don’t get paid to scan our own items,” his post concluded.
According to his Facebook profile, Larry was an employee of the retail giant from 2014 to 2021.
SCAN-AND-GO Outrage
Larry wasn’t the only customer outraged by Walmart’s Scan and Go — which is exclusive to Walmart+ subscribers.
What is Walmart Scan and Go?

Walmart’s Scan and Go is designed to save shoppers time
Walmart’s Scan and Go system was created to help customers scan items as they shop, pay and check out, without waiting in long checkout lines.
The retailer outlines the new system to be implemented in a few easy steps:
- Customers first need to download the Walmart app on their phone with location access enabled.
- On the Store Mode home page, buyers must click on the Scan and Go option.
- Customers can scan each item and place them in their carts as they shop.
- At the end, they will be asked to view their cart to ensure the quantity in the app matches the quantity in their cart.
- Shoppers will press “Check Out” and head to a self-checkout kiosk.
- They will be asked to scan the QR code provided at the cash register and confirm their payment method.
- Once the transaction is complete, shoppers can leave the store without any worries.
A Reddit user shared their experience with Scan and Go, saying it is “actually more difficult” than the traditional shopping experience.
“Even if you qualify, the Faster Checkout program is not available for use at any Walmart, like, anywhere,” explained the Editor.
They continued, expressing that the seller didn’t “know what Scan & Go was.”
The Redditor also stated that there was only one of two self-checkout stations, which meant there was a longer wait time to pay.
Other shoppers were angered after self-checkout lines at their local Walmarts are exclusive to Scan & Go users.
Many vocalized on X, formerly Twitter, that they should not charge “customers who already pay to pay for using self-checkout.”
Another said: “First, they made me do someone else’s job by implementing self-checkout.
“Now they want me to pay them to do someone else’s job. I hate Walmart.”
While Walmart+ currently costs $12.95 monthly or $98 for the annual plan, shoppers can try out the subscription before committing.
