AN Ohio lottery player scratched off her ticket at work when she discovered she had won thousands of dollars.

The win was unexpected, as was the $42,000 lost due to a little-known lottery rule.

Anna Hall of Cincinnati, Ohio, stopped at the local gas station on her way to work to try to win the lottery.

She purchased a $10 Lady Luck 50X scratch-off ticket, according to lottery officials.

When she got to work, she started crossing out the numbers.

“I noticed there were 15 winners, but I thought it was just a typical $10, right? $10 win,” she said.

Hall was shocked to see that his win totaled much more than $10.

“I scratched the first one and saw it was $2,000, and honestly, I sat down at my desk and went to my coworker and asked her to check it, to make sure I was right, and when she did, she showed me was like, ‘No, this is it,'” Hall said.

“I scratched the rest of them and started jumping up and down.”

Turns out his $10 ticket made $150,000.

However, lottery winners do not keep the full prize amount listed on the ticket.

In Hall’s case, she took home $108,000 after federal and state taxes.

The Lady Luck 50X top prize is $500,000.

As of June 14th, three main prizes remain in the game.

AT THE IDEAL TIME

Hall’s big win couldn’t have come at a better time.

She was stressed about debt and mortgage when she discovered her luck in the lottery.

“I was about to take out a home loan. I was worried about the debt this could put me in, but I wanted to buy, buy the house,” she explained.

States that do not tax lottery prizes

Currently, these eight US states do not have a state lottery tax:

  • California
  • Florida
  • New Hampshire
  • South Dakota
  • Tennessee
  • Texas
  • washington
  • Wyoming

Lottery winnings in these states are still subject to federal tax withholdings.

“I immediately called my loan officer and told him that I just made some money and that I won’t need the loan anymore.”

The extra money would also help take care of your child.

“I just adopted a baby. I am in the adoption process. She is eight months old now and I got her when she was three days old,” she said.

Hall plans to use the money to start a college fund for her daughter.

The US Sun has previously reported on lucky lottery winners.

A player won $15 million on a scratch card but lost $9.6 million just by answering a common question.

Another player won a $1 million prize and revealed his 20-year strategy.
