A disgruntled father has decided to demand justice for his son after he says the boy was swindled out of hundreds of dollars by a major bank.

The father claims his son opened a new Chase Bank account only to have the account frozen and his money blocked.

Chase Bank, like many financial institutions, runs promotional offers for new customers, seeking to encourage them to open more accounts of different types.

The bank is currently running a deal where new Chase customers who open a checking account can receive a free $300 if they deposit $500 or more within 90 days of signing up.

After depositing $500, the customer can expect their bonus cash within 15 days.

According to John, @JLL____ on X, he did not receive the bonus money, instead it was blocked from his account.

“Son opens an online account with Chase. They offered a $300 bonus with $500 or more directly deposited in the first 90 days,” he wrote in a first post.

“He received a debit card, etc. Within 2 weeks, he met the bonus requirement,” the father continued.

John and his son were waiting for the bonus to arrive in their new checking account, but instead there was more paperwork to sort out.

“He then receives a letter telling him to respond via 800# or in person, by 4/10 – (the letter indicates required identifying information),” John explained.

“He goes to the local branch with the required documents. The representative said everything was resolved.”

But then, three days later, his son was greeted with a frozen account, the enraged father said.

‘Our hard-earned money,’ screams Chase customer whose account was drained of $17K after suspicious text message – bank ‘dropped them’

When his son called the bank’s customer service line, he was told there was a mandatory ten-day hold on the account, but the representative “never [gave] one reason.”

After the ten-day hold was supposed to expire on April 10, your son tried to use the account but discovered he was unable to do so due to employee error.

“You find out you can’t do anything, your account is frozen, you still call customer service and are told that the branch employee never uploaded your identity information,” the father shared.

The saga doesn’t end there, as John has been continually posting about the issue, tagging Chase’s official support account for answers.

Many Chase customers claimed they also had issues with account closures and freezes

According to the father, his son was told that the bank closed his account and would return the money he deposited, but did not mention the bonus money he was owed.

“Customer service now says they closed his account and will mail his funds. But they haven’t resolved his $300 bonus. Says he needs to go to the branch again to see how to receive it. What’s up with Chase ?” asked John.

His outrage at the situation continued as he explained that his son chose Chase from several options.

“Just so you know, he researched who to open an account with and chose your company,” John wrote.

“What happens? Where’s his bonus?” he continued, tagging @chasesupport.

Chase’s support account has not publicly responded to John’s claims and did not immediately respond to US Sun’s request for comment.

CHASING PROBLEMS

Chase Bank has faced multiple allegations from customers that their accounts were closed for no good reason.

A new businesswoman opened a bank account with friends to start their joint venture.

They collectively deposited $56,000 into the account through digital payment apps Zelle and Cash App.

When the businessman went to use the resources, they were blocked and he called the bank.

“When I called, I was informed that my account had been closed and that I would not receive my funds,” they explained.

The Chase customer had no luck accessing the funds and was worried that he might never see his thousands of dollars again.

Another parent was left baffled when their five-year-old son’s account was closed as they tried to pay for childcare.

“This is the first time since I opened my account five years ago,” they said.

“I had sent a payment to my son’s daycare, and everyone [a] Suddenly, my access to online banking was blocked.”

He was also left without clear answers.

Reasons why a bank account is closed

According to Chase, there are several reasons why a customer’s bank account is closed without notice.

  • Inactivity – if the account has not been used for a certain period
  • Fraudulent activity – suspicious withdrawals or suspected theft
  • Over-limit fees – if a customer makes a transaction greater than the amount of money available in their account
  • Credit score – if a customer has had a significant drop in their credit score
  • Delinquency – if payments have been consistently missed

Chase suggests calling the issuer to ask about reopening if an account is closed. The customer may be asked to provide information such as name, address and Social Security number.
