Benefits provide cash payments to qualified applicants with disabilities.

However, the woman said her brother was excluded from one of the programs.

SSI benefits were suspended as soon as SSDI went into effect, and then she said her brother received a surprising letter.

He said his brother was overpaid on his Supplemental Security Income by $6,049.86.

Although the Social Security Administration took $3,952.96 from his paycheck, he still owed $2,096.88.

“I think a mistake was made somewhere,” she wrote. “How can I help you fix this?”

MONEY FOR CHILDREN

Her brother is 30 years old and the money he owed was more than two decades old.

It was from when their mother received benefits for him at the age of 5.

However, the mother failed to disclose certain rental income she received in 1996, and the SSA discovered this years later.

The user wanted to know if his brother could appeal the decision, as he had no knowledge of the money as a child.

‘They’ve already ruined my life,’ mother explodes after receiving $58,000 Social Security bill – she now lives in her car

“My mother received that money in his name when he was a minor, over 25 years ago,” they wrote.

One person responded recommending that the brother request an exemption from overpayment.

“It’s not a guarantee of anything, but sometimes they forgive overpayments if it’s a legitimate error,” they said.

“Wow, SSI/SSDI really keeps the tightest possible grip on people,” wrote another user.

SSA-632 Filing Exemption Form

Those who are unable to repay the overpayment amounts indicated by the SSA or who feel they should not be able to do so can fill out a specific form.

  • O form is identified as SSA-632 in the SSA website and can be completed and submitted at a local office.
  • “If you agree that you have been overpaid, but feel
  • If you shouldn’t have to return it because you didn’t cause the overpayment and can’t refund it, you should fill out Form SSA-632,” the SSA notes on its website.
  • It also lists several refund options.
  • Recipients with additional questions should call 1-800-772-1213.

EXCESS PAYMENT WAIVER

According to the SSA, payees can request Form SSA-632BK when they receive overpayment notices.

The resignation requests that the SSA reconsider its decision.

If approved, the overpayment is not charged to provide the beneficiary with a break from the financial constraint.

The SSA may also change the rate at which a beneficiary must pay the fee if it is not fully waived.

The form can be mailed to a local Social Security office or call 1-800-772-1213 with any questions.

MORE SOCIAL SECURITY

A widow had no idea what to do when she discovered her late husband had a $34,048.40 bill that she now needed to pay.

Her husband had received disability benefits, but after he died Social Security took away the $1,900 monthly income he used to receive.

The woman said she receives $779 a month, which she uses to cover rent and car expenses.

She worried about not being able to make the huge payment on time.
