‘It’s not worth it’, enrage Paramount Plus customers as the streaming giant confirms price increase and promises to cancel

Price changes slightly by subscription tier.

The price of Paramount+’s limited commercial option will increase by $1, from $6.99 to $7.99, according to Reuters.

The Paramount+ Essential subscription will increase by $2, from $5.99 to $7.99.

Paramount’s most expensive option, which includes a Showtime plan, will now cost subscribers $12.99 per month, a $1 increase.

New customers will experience the changes on August 20th, while existing users won’t be hit with the new prices until September 20th.

Chief Executive Bob Bakish announced in 2023 that there would be a future price increase.

“Our plan is to raise prices again – this is not our only price increase,” Bakish said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“If we do it in 25 or 24, we’ll see.”

The company’s co-CEOs also informed employees in early June about upcoming changes to help pay down debt, according to an email seen by Reuters.

Paramount’s leadership created a “strategic plan” that involved investments in film and TV franchises, series and sports.

While the price changes aren’t drastic, they still affect paying customers.

One customer said the increase was “not worth it.”

“Movies are mostly outdated, they need more new movies and shows strictly for Paramount Plus,” said one user he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Frustration over a lack of selection also comes after the red-hot service eliminated its options in March.

Subscribers were shocked to see popular children’s titles removed from the platform.

Paramount Plus Prices Over the Years

Paramount Plus has decided to increase its subscription prices in 2024.

However, this isn’t the first time the popular streaming service has made changes.

Ahead of the launch of Paramount+ with Showtime in June 2023, the subscription option went from $9.99 to $11.99 per month, according to Cord Cutters News.

In 2023, chief executive Bob Bakish announced that the platform would have a future price increase.

“Our plan is to raise prices again – this is not our only price increase,” Bakish said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“If we do it in 25 or 24, we’ll see.”

The company announced in June 2024 that its prices were officially changing.

“As part of this, we are streamlining Paramount+’s original content, especially internationally, and improving the efficiency of our linear network programming.

“As a result, we have reviewed our broad global content portfolio and are removing select content from our platforms.”

Subscribers took to social media to air their grievances about losing favorites.

“The Blues Clues, Rugrats, and Are You Afraid of the Dark reboots have been kicked off on the Paramount Plus streaming mountain,” one wrote.

“For a 90s kid like me, it’s a bummer. I hope they find new homes soon.”

“Someone has to stop these shows from being deleted forever,” one fan pleaded.
