A supermarket employee, identified only by her nickname Yeyo, made the fateful decision to buy lottery tickets at lunchtime.

From Salisbury, Maryland – 170 kilometers from Baltimore – the mother of two decided to test her luck with several scratch-off tickets.

An occasional player, Yeyo began scratching the first two tickets, which turned out to be duds.

The player decided to buy one more ticket, opting to play the $150,000 Extreme game.

“I thought it was $50, but it was a $150,000 win,” Yeyo said. “I thought, ‘This can’t be real.’”

She was stunned and asked her co-worker to double-check the ticket.

After confirming the victory, the supermarket employee called her husband.

“It was so hard to believe that she won, because I’m the one playing,” he told lottery officials when the couple went to retrieve their money.

“I had to see it for myself, so I immediately went to her work.”

The couple encountered scheduling conflicts when trying to pick a day to claim the money, but headed to lottery headquarters about two weeks after the initial win.

Yeyo shared that she has no plans for the money yet and will put it in savings for now.

She purchased the winning ticket at Union Latina at 810 Beaglin Park Drive in Salisbury, which will receive a $1,000 bonus.

MONEY DRAIN

Yeyo won the first top prize of $150,000 in the scratch-off game, but failed to keep the entire announced prize.

Since his prize was more than US$5,000, the player lost a considerable amount to taxes.
