Americans will receive up to $1,000 in free cash discounted to $266 million starting in just a few days – check if you’re eligible

ELIGIBLE Americans can receive up to $1,000 in free cash from a $266 million property tax and rent rebate fund.

The first payment goes out in less than a week and there are three main eligibility criteria.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro announced that the state will begin allocating $266 million in property tax and rent rebates on July 1, per Forbes.

The discount program has been expanded and the tax reduction aims to help hundreds of thousands of seniors through economic relief.

Pennsylvania’s governor shared the news at the Upper Darby Senior Center, highlighting the crucial support the program will provide to financially struggling seniors.

The Pennsylvania Lottery funds the program, which has existed in some form since 1971.

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

To receive the free money, Americans must meet three eligibility criteria.

First, they must be a homeowner or renter in Pennsylvania.

The second criteria for applicants is that they must be aged 65 or over, be a widow or widower aged 50 or over, or be disabled aged 18 or over.

The third criteria is that applicants’ annual income must be $45,000 or less.

HOW MUCH IS THE DISCOUNT?

The maximum rebate payment is $1,000, but the payment amount varies depending on the applicant’s income.

Those with annual incomes of $0 to $8,000 can receive the full $1,000.

Applicants with income between $8,001 and $15,000 are eligible for a payment of $770.

Residents earning between $15,001 and $18,000 can receive $460, and those with incomes between $18,001 and $45,000 can receive $380.

Although the maximum income is $45,000, it will increase with inflation in the future.

ADDITIONAL DISCOUNTS

Eligible applicants are eligible for supplemental discounts of between $190 and $500.

Additional discounts are automatically calculated for owners who meet the following criteria:

• Have an income of $30,000 or less
• Have property taxes greater than 15% of their total income
• Reside in Philadelphia, Scranton or Pittsburgh

Those in the lowest income bracket – $0 to $8,000 – can receive a supplemental $500 discount, increasing their total maximum discount to $1,500.

Applicants earning between $8,001 and $15,000 can receive a supplemental discount of $385, while the supplemental discount for residents earning between $15,001 and $18,000 is $230.

Residents with income between $18,001 and $30,000 can receive a supplemental discount of $190.

Residents have until December 31, 2024 to request rebate checks.
