Tenants listed on rental applications at Branford Manor for part or all of the period between November 23, 2019 and November 22, 2022 are eligible for the money.

According to class lawsuitBranford Manor mismanaged its apartments, causing tenants to suffer injuries and property loss.

Those affected by the injuries and financial damages sought compensation – claiming Branford Manor should be held responsible.

Although the operators of Branford Manor have not admitted mismanagement of the property, they have agreed to a $12.25 million settlement to resolve the lawsuit.

Under the terms of the settlement, all class members can receive a base pay based on age and years of residence.

Years of residence will be calculated using Branford Manor records.

  • Adults can receive $2,000 for less than two years of residency.

The process also addresses minors who may be eligible to claim money.

  • Minors can receive $3,000 for more than three years of residency.
  • Minors can receive $2,000 for two to three years of residency.
  • Minors can receive $1,000 for less than two years of residency.

What is a class action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or “classes,” a way to come together in court.

These lawsuits are often filed by one or a few people who allege that a company or other entity has harmed a large group of people.

When a lawsuit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar claims to those who filed the lawsuit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue legal action by accepting money.

These payment agreements often include statements from the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination or false advertising are some examples of what can lead to a class action lawsuit at a company’s door.

Nearly $4 million has been set aside specifically for these increased payments, although payment amounts will vary depending on the injuries suffered by each claimant.

The final approval hearing for the agreement is scheduled for July 2, 2024.

The deadline to submit Request Form #1 for base payments is June 10, 2024.

The deadline to submit Request Form #2 for increased payments is July 15, 2024.

HOW TO CLAIM

Eligibles may file one or both claims online.

Applicants must prepare relevant medical certificates, medical bills, receipts, invoices, insurance claims and other loss documentation before applying.

Meanwhile, Capital One agreed to pay a total of $16 million to resolve complaints that it improperly charged customers additional surcharges.

And eligible Americans can expect a payout soon after Under Armor agreed to a $434 million settlement.
