New Balance follows Crocs and expands popular program into 100 stores – and shoppers can now win shoe vouchers

NEW BALANCE has expanded its Reconsidered program, where customers can bring in gently used shoes in exchange for a store voucher.

The shoe company has teamed up with Archive, a brand resale company, to launch its in-store trade-in program.

Nearly 100 retail stores in the U.S. will participate in the Reconsidered program, the company said in an email on June 17.

Shoppers can use their vouchers on their next purchases at New Balance stores.

The footwear company also recently teamed up with Tersus, which will purge and list items for resale on the company’s New Balance Reconsidered marketplace.

This program comes after New Balance executives noted that secondhand products sell 2.6 times faster than their brand’s supply.

The company also said the Reconsidered program is part of New Balance’s sustainability efforts.

Archive announced the partnership on X, formerly Twitter – citing New Balance’s Director of Sustainability.

“The launch of Reconsidered is one piece of the puzzle with the program’s goal of helping extend the life of some of our products and making the most of what we already have,” said John Stokes, Director of Sustainability at New Balance. .

New Balance isn’t the only one offering such a program.

Most recently, Crocs expanded its trade-in program, called Old Crocs New Life, to include collection boxes at all U.S. retail and outlet stores.

In 2022, Lululemon began offering its trade-in program nationwide, expanding the pilot program beyond certain U.S. locations.

Dick’s Sporting Goods also recently expanded its reseller partnership with SidelineSwap.

This allowed the sports retailer to co-host trade-in events where shoppers turned in used sports equipment in exchange for e-gift cards.

Last year, Canada Goose teamed up with Trove to launch its Canada Goose Generations resale program, where shoppers can purchase authenticated items and resellers can receive gift cards.

In the same year, Carhartt collaborated with the same company to offer its dealership program in 35 locations, expanding the program from its original six-store pilot.

New Balance fans spoke positively about the program in general.

Initially, many were concerned that the products would be overused or unfit for use.

One social media user said they purchased the 990V3 from New Balance using the Reconsidered program.

The shoes were marked with a “Like New” condition note.

“I was very interested to see how close they would actually be to the new ones,” they said.

“Now that I have them in hand, I would consider this to be an accurate/acceptable rating. It was a positive shopping experience…”
