ATHLETES in one city are getting a new place to practice – and shop.
The Dick’s Sporting Goods store in New York is undergoing a transformation that will add a new floor and more activities.
The Dick’s in Amherst, just outside of Buffalo, is becoming a Dick’s House of Sport.
Houses of Sport is the company’s store brand that incorporates gym elements into the store experience.
Some locations have sports courts, climbing walls and other services.
Amherst’s Boulevard Mall is already home to a one-story Dick’s Sporting Goods, but it will soon be replaced by a two-story House of Sport, according to local ABC affiliate WKBW.
The mall is closing for renovations, but the Dick’s store will remain open, an employee confirmed to the US Sun.
The Sports House is being built further down the road as a new location.
It’s unclear when the new location will open its doors.
SPORTS STORE
While there are hundreds of regular Dick’s locations, there are only 14 House of Sport locations.
The Buffalo store will be the brand’s 15th location.
While it’s unclear exactly what facilities the new store will have, many include a variety of gym-like elements.
“From baseball, softball, golf to football, we’ll help you get to the top of your game – no matter how you stay active,” says the brand’s website.
In addition to fields and other recreational spaces, the store has places to practice with new equipment.
The store’s Pro Golf Shop, for example, can analyze your swing while you try out clubs.
“Find the best gear to perform at your best, practice your skills, connect with your community, and participate in special events in our new interactive space,” the store states.
