AMERICANS can get up to $1,500 with a discount program that can help pay for their transportation.
Minnesota is offering the money as a rebate for electric bikes.
The state’s application system crashed earlier this month, shortly after the program launched, due to StarTribune.
Now, the state is getting back up and running with an official relaunch.
The program has set aside $2 million to cover about 50% to 75% of the cost of an electric bike.
Bikes that use batteries can cost more than $2,000 — although the program is limited to payments of $1,500.
The application portal will reopen on July 2nd at 11am local time.
HOW TO QUALIFY
Minnesota has set aside money for electric bikes during the 2024 and 2025 fiscal years.
However, there are some rules to qualify.
Your bike must be from a qualified supplier.
The state has a list of approved bicycle sellers online.
“We expect the application period to be brief, as only approximately 10,000 applications will be accepted,” the state said. “When this limit is reached, the discount request will be closed.”
Those who qualify will receive a certificate. The amount will vary depending on your income.
This certificate must be used within two months, otherwise it will expire.
Only certain bikes can also qualify – any electric bike with a motor that uses more than 750 watts of power does not qualify.
Mopeds and scooters are also not eligible.
