WALMART shoppers continue to target the retailer as they try to crack down on theft.
Many shoppers also criticized the mega-chain for its cash receipts, as well as long checkout lines.
A woman attacked Walmart on the social media platform TikTok by saying they are “inconveniencing legitimate customers” with their evolving safety measures.
In it publishAlexandra Nicole (@opie_petsitting,) details the difficulty of going to the local Walmart in Spring Valley, Las Vegas.
“How funny is it to shop at Walmart in 2024,” Nicole wrote as part of the video’s on-screen text.
The video then moves to a locked shelf of medicine.
“So, after you get them to unlock one of those counters, they take the shit you bought and put it in another little box,” the woman continues holding a clear, lidded box with two deodorant sticks inside.
Nicole then cuts to an interaction between her companion and an employee who is unlocking the briefcase and getting more deodorant.
According to Nicole, the employee left with the merchandise and held it at the register.
Both Nicole and her friend were stunned by the sudden disappearance.
“We stood there for five minutes because we had no idea that the clear box policy was constantly changing,” she wrote.
Nicole jokingly called shopping at the retailer a “dystopian hellscape.”
“Oh Walmart… you guys are hilarious,” she captioned the video.
“I thought nothing could be funnier than the moment we had directional arrows in the hallways and signs that said we had to stay 6 feet apart, but here we are.”
“We have to find someone to unlock the big box so they can put our things in a little box, then we have to take that little box back later to be unlocked again.”
Since being posted, the video has gained one million views.
Anti-theft measures implemented by retailers
Retailers in the US and Canada have implemented strategies designed to combat theft. The US Sun has compiled a list of measures that have been implemented in stores.
- Lock items in cabinets.
- Safety stakes.
- Security cameras.
- Signs warning about the impact of theft.
- Receipt scanners.
- Receipt checks.
- Carts with locking technology
Many users of the social media app also expressed their displeasure with the brand.
“They lock things and no one is around to unlock them,” one user complained.
“I stopped going to the target because I started locking the doors to everything. At that point Amazon can take my business,” said a second person.
“If a product is blocked, I assume they don’t want to sell it and I don’t need it,” declared a third person.
Nicole later spoke with News week saying that there was a serious flaw in the store’s anti-theft system.
“It is usually very difficult to purchase these items because you have to locate an employee to open the glass doors,” she said.
“Only a few employees have a key, so most will say they can’t help you.”
